Turbo 2 vs. Moto X Pure

What are folks thoughts on these 2 devices? I am a bit torn on which way to go.

The Pure has the bigger screen, but a less powerful processor. However, there is always still that potential issue of the SnapDragon 810 having heat issues. With the complaints out there that there are heat issues with the SnapDragon 808 chip in the Pure, I am concerned that there will be similar, or even worse, issues in the Turbo 2.

The bigger battery in the Turbo 2 could be a big plus, but I'm not convinced on that. When I went from the Droid Maxx to the first Droid Turbo, I actually got about the same to slightly less battery life out of the Turbo compared to the Maxx with the same usage pattern/level, so the bigger battery in the Turbo didn't seem to be special.

Memory is a wash, and I am not all that concerned with camera performance, since I don't use my phone for a lot of pics. Size between the two devices is similar.

I think that the battery changes from the Maxx to the Turbo was due more to the quad HD display, which was pushing four times more pixels. The Turbo 2 has the same number of pixels, and I think that the 810 is a more battery-efficient processor. It may get slightly less battery life for equal use, but it may turn out to be the same. We won't know until there are full reviews done (probably soon.) As for me, I just need the phone to get from unplugging when I wake up to plugging in when I go to bed, and both the Turbo and Turbo 2 will be more than good enough for that.

The size is not similar - the Turbo 2 is a quarter inch longer and a couple of mm wider. (I've always thought that the Droid Maxx was about as big as I want a phone to be, and won't buy a phone that's larger than a couple of mm in length or width still. The Turbo was arguably too big IMO, and the Pure, Turbo 2 and Maxx 2 are just too big for me. So disappointed that Motorola no longer creates physically decent sized phones.)

The Pure may have a better screen. With the air gapped AMOLED vs the LCD of the Pure (even if the Pure's LCD is not that great), the Pure is probably a better display. But, I would look at both first just to be sure, if you can find somebody with a Pure to look at.

Heat issues we won't know, again, until there are reviews. I think the 810 heat issues reported in the past have been overblown and were probably due to poor implementation by other OEMs. But, again - we'll see.

If you have a Turbo, though, and love it, there is no way that the Turbo 2 offers enough value to justify the cost of an upgrade, in my opinion.

So, to summarize: I'd wait to judge until there are some good, decent, objective reviews after using for a while from places like here (Phandroid), AnandTech, Ars Technica, etc.

You can probably get your hands on a display model of the MXPE at Best Buy. My local BB is a small urban store yet they had one tonight. The display was surprisingly nice for an LCD. The most impressive thing for me compared to my N6 is the size of the bezels. They are almost nonexistent! Helps make the phone significantly narrower than the N6 to the point that my wife could handle it comfortably. She is debating between that and the 6P.

My Turbo 2 gets pretty hot on various occasions. It's too soon to tell, but it seems to happen with some resource-intensive apps, such as video calling (not the Verizon HD video calling, but Zoom for example). It might also be an app problem as much as a processor problem since my Galaxy S4 would sometimes get piping hot while on video call using Zoom. Once, it even crashed the app in the middle of a call while overheating. And just 3 weeks ago, I read an article about the Facebook app and iOS which said: "Facebook's newest iOS update, out today, fixes a major battery draining bug that some Facebook users have been experiencing in recent weeks. Affected users were seeing large amounts of battery drain on their iPhones due to Facebook running in the background, something that happened even when background app refresh was toggled off in the Settings app."

I got the Moto X Force (which is the international version of the Turbo 2) on Saturday not seen any undue heating problems, i would say it heats up less than my previous phone the Galaxy s4.

Battery life looks like it is going to be amazing with it easily being able to clear 2 days per charge, it was reporting this morning as of the current usage i had another 3 days left.

I have hammered it today to get the battery to drain so i can charge it this evening but it will still hit close on 2 days
