Hey,

My first android device was the Moto G3, which I thought was excellent for the money. I then bought a Huawei Honor 7i or something.....also excellent for the money. I then figured that since I am a power user, I would go for something top of the line, so I bought the Galaxy S7 Edge, as all the reviews were great, sying it is the best phone out there. Well, while I agree, the screen is pretty, the battery lasts all day, games work well (although i'm not a gamer), the camera is very good and multi tasking works well, I am not at all impressed with the ergonomics and usability of this phone, nor the reliability of the software.

I'll come clean, I was an iphone user, but got sick of the price and the anal attitude towards compatibility with the outside world. I was very chuffed with Android, until I tried this device. I remember now why I was so anti Samsung:

1. You cannot use this phone one handed. Even 2 handed, you have to be extremely careful not to either touch the over sensitive screen, the edges or the capacitive buttons, which will send you miles away from where you were going, and cause you to waste precious minutes navigating around, when all you wanted was to check an e mail! Just a horrible experience!.... try passing the phone to somebody to show them a picture and 9 times out of 10, the picture will be lost before the picture is in front of their eyes.

2. Chromecast streaming works very unreliably. Quite often, the only way to get the phone out of a streaming related lockup, is to re start it.......really? this is supposed to b a flagship power house!

3. I have had to re pair my Android Wear device to the phone 3 times in 3 weeks of ownership.

4. OK Google either falsely triggers itself while listening to you tube clips that don't even say OK, or Google. Yes I have re trained it several times. Most of the time, while asking Google for something, OK Google will butt in when I''m half way through my sentence, with the wrong answer.

6. Google keyboard, which I have been using successfully since my Moto G, refuses to sync to Google on the S7, as it thinks I have a Google Apps account.....I don't, and besides, it is working fine on both my other devices.

5. It has never taken me so long to type anything, as it does with this phone. It just constantly misinterprets what you are typing.

6. The edge functionality is very weak, so don't buy this phone if you are expecting great things from this feature.

7. The phone interface is clunky and dated, not containing many useful features, as Huawei's widely ridiculed Touch Wizz does, while looking light and functional.

These are all basics, as you can see. Stuff that we should be taking for granted at this stage. What is the point of making a phone that is this horrible to use, just for the sake of it having a gimmicky screen??

I am going to get rid of it. I'm too old to spend my time scouring the internet for fixes and work arounds, I just want a nice phone that is better than my 200$ ones! May well go back to a Moto G or a nexus.

Does anyone know how to fix all of the above issues by any chance? The camera is genuinely nice!

Bloody Samsung!

Sounds like an EDGE for you might have been the wrong choice, perhaps should have got a phone with a bit more bezel on it. :)

Don't know anything about those, never used them or they're not available.

Try a different keyboard? Like Swiftkey or something.

I'd never have another Samsung flagship. namely because they're too damn expensive here, and also I don't really need the Knox "warranty void" counters in a device.

1. You cannot use this phone one handed.
See mikedt's response :) I know friends that use the S7 edge and don't have this issue - but everybody uses/holds their phone differently. The non-edge version may have worked better for you. Are you within the return period?

2. Chromecast streaming works very unreliably. Quite often, the only way to get the phone out of a streaming related lockup, is to re start it.......really? this is supposed to b a flagship power house!
Chromecast streaming - using the cast icon in apps should never really lock up your device. All that does it sends the URL of what needs to be streamed (to the chromecast), and that's really it. You are not using miracast or screen mirroring, right? You are running into this issue with true cast? (example: Open youtube app on your phone, and click the cast icon to cast to chromecast) - What type of lock up are you seeing?

3. I have had to re pair my Android Wear device to the phone 3 times in 3 weeks of ownership.
What wear device do you have? And why does it make you re-pair? Any errors? or delays in connecting? My Urbane has some delays in the initial connection at times - like right in the morning - I usually let it be for a minute or so, and it pairs by itself.

4. OK Google either falsely triggers itself while listening to you tube clips that don't even say OK, or Google. Yes I have re trained it several times. Most of the time, while asking Google for something, OK Google will butt in when I''m half way through my sentence, with the wrong answer.

For ok google, are you sure it is not s-voice stepping in? ok google is pretty reliable in detection.
Try clearing the cache for the two apps (google search and keyboard) and see if that helps.

5. It has never taken me so long to type anything, as it does with this phone. It just constantly misinterprets what you are typing.
Which keyboard? I use the Google Keyboard (on my Nexus 6) and find it to be very reliable - be it typing, swyping, or voice recognition.

I'd blame this one on you rather than on the phone or Samsung. As always, test the phone yourself before buying. It doesn't matter what reviews say, because experience will be different for you than for others. You might have fairly small hands, or the way you are used holding the phone makes you grip the edges. If you tested the phone first before buying, just one of the display units in stores for example, you'd see this problem. If it matters to you, in times you need to operate the phone one handedly, a triple press of the home button reduces screen display to emulate a 3.7 inch screen for one hand uses. Personally, I can use a lot of the phone's functions one handedly, and my keyboard (Swiftkey) has one handed function I can activate should I need it.

But then, that's why the smaller S7 was available in the first place, same hardware, except for the smaller battery due to the smaller size of the phone. So you can have the same experience but with something more ergonomically friendly.

2. Chromecast streaming works very unreliably. Quite often, the only way to get the phone out of a streaming related lockup, is to re start it.......really? this is supposed to b a flagship power house!

I don't use Chromecast so wouldn't know. You're the first one I've seen to complain though.

3. I have had to re pair my Android Wear device to the phone 3 times in 3 weeks of ownership.
I don't use one. But is it a Samsung device? If not, then obviously Samsung can't guarantee compatibility. It's up to the device makers.

4. OK Google either falsely triggers itself while listening to you tube clips that don't even say OK, or Google. Yes I have re trained it several times. Most of the time, while asking Google for something, OK Google will butt in when I''m half way through my sentence, with the wrong answer.
Don't use it. I actually disabled S Voice and Ok Google soon after turning the phone on. Not because I don't like them. I just don't have use for them.

6. Google keyboard, which I have been using successfully since my Moto G, refuses to sync to Google on the S7, as it thinks I have a Google Apps account.....I don't, and besides, it is working fine on both my other devices.
Not sure about your problem here. You just have to sign in to Google and it should sync. Although honestly I tried Google Keyboard before and much rather prefer Swiftkey.

5. It has never taken me so long to type anything, as it does with this phone. It just constantly misinterprets what you are typing.
If you mean auto-correct, that is a function of the keyboard app. Not a function of the phone itself. If you're using Google Keyboard, then it's causing your issues.

6. The edge functionality is very weak, so don't buy this phone if you are expecting great things from this feature.
I actually think the Edge is more for an aesthetic gimmik. They just added stuff so it may look to have some sort of use.

7. The phone is clunky and dated, not containing many useful features, as Huawei's widely ridiculed Touch Wizz does, while looking light and functional.
Depends on what you consider useful and not. Samsung barely put anything on it actually. Most of what you see is what stock Android would provide you and a number of the Samsung stuff previously available out of the box needs to be downloadrd. That said, I do like Smart Stay, and Smart Alert, the double press for camera and triple press for one hand operation. It's subjective.

I am going to get rid of it. I'm too old to spend my time scouring the internet for fixes and work arounds, I just want a nice phone that is better than my 200$ ones! May well go back to a Moto G or a nexus.

Bloody Samsung!

The best fix for you is to simply get the non Edge S7. Same hardware, only difference is a conventional flat screen and smaller battery, since well, the phone body is smaller.

Sadly not!

Sending you tube is fine, its screen mirroring that goes wrong. I was using all connect before, but that doesnt work now! Screen mirroring from the chromecast app sometimes works, other times, either wont connect to the chromecast, other times, won't disconnect.

AsusZen watch 2. Was working perfectly on my Huawei.

Ill check.

I have always used google keyboard and it has always been perfect, just not on this Samsung!

Most of the reasons you listed is why I got a S7 instead of the S7E. It's great one handed.
