Looking for some feedback regarding experience with camera apps (free or otherwise!) for 5.1.

Phone: Moto E LTE (2015, 2nd Gen)
Carrier: Consumer Cellular
OS: Lollipop 5.1, but does not support camera2 api, and it looks like the latest version of Google Camera (at this point) won't be available for Lollipop.
Highest Priority: resolution, options for settings.
Lowest Priority: editing functions; I download pics to my computer for editing.
Current apps: motorola camera app came with the camera. I use Open Camera as my default. Super app.

Thanks for any feedback!

I would go into Google Play Store to shop around and read reviews and ratings on the different camera apps that's available and pick for yourself because some camara apps is not only taking pictures but taking much more, like location , phone contacts, video call logging and data mining ect. I would choose carefully because one man's treasure can be another guy's hell.

Google Camera

Many vendors bundle their own devices for photography applications, but these programs are not always comfortable and functional. In this case, you can always download and install the reference application from Google. It has a very simple interface so that even novice photo enthusiasts do not get confused in the settings, but at the same time has a number of advanced features. With this camera, you can manually adjust the depth of focus, remove pie pan, take advantage of HDR technology, and, of course, to shoot video.

Thanks. The unfortunate part of having 5.1 without support for the camera2 api is that there are a lot of good camera apps out there that I can't take advantage of fully because that makes a lot of manual setting options unavailable, depending on the app.

I'm continuing to try out various apps on Google Play, but I guess I was wondering, specifically, if anyone has had better luck with one app than another with manual features, in spite of not having Lollipop with support for camera2 api. Pretty esoteric, I admit, but then what are forums for??

As for Google Camera 4.3, I'd love to try it, but it has disappeared, and not available for download. I did read elsewhere that it will be available for Marshmallow, but that the rest of are out of luck for the time being. Drat!

Thanks again!

Thanks, everyone

I tried them all, and appreciate your suggestions. However, the winner (for me, at least, with 5.1 and no camera2 api support!), is the one I started with, Open Camera. Its a great app to start with, and with its support for the camera2 app, its probably even better. Should be included in everyone's "camera bag."

Regards, John
