Backup Android Phone to Computer?

Question 1:

First time posting to this site. Interested in whether I can manually backup ALL data/contents from an Android phone, to my computer. Currently running Windows 10, but this could change to another OS, down the road (ie Linux). I have never owned an Android phone, but want to know what capability their is for backup, NOT to the cloud, but to my personal computer.

Please let me know if you have good, clear information on this. I have attempted a search on the web, and with not much luck. If you search for this on the Apple side of the house, iTunes is the result. But how can I do this on the Android side?

Question 2:

Can I transfer the content from my iPhone 6 to an Android phone, without using the cloud? I am specifically interested in transferring my contacts, calendar items, and photos. But, ultimately, everything, if possible. What options are available to do this?

Thank you!

Look at the description of the Helium backup app and see whether that meets your needs.

For transferring data between phones, several manufacturers have their own tools for that. You won't get non-cloud tools from Google themselves as that's something they are not interested in (iPhones back up via iTunes because they grew out of the iPod).

It appears Helium backups up text messages and apps. I am interested in backing up contacts, photos/videos, and calendar. Those three items are primary, with text messages and app/data being secondary. Am I missing something here? Will Helium or another application backup what I need? If so, would you please send along the URL(s) for the product(s).

Who are the manufacturers that allow transfer of contacts, photos, calendar, text messages, etc., from iPhone to Android? Please name two or three good choices, if you would.

I am struggling with this, as there is not much feedback from folks.

Thank you!

Hi, if you need to transfer the data directly from your phone to computer, you can use some android file transfer tools, like airdroid, but airdroid only allows photos, videos transfer. For your question2, you can choose phone to phone transfer programs, I think some of them can be used to transfer data between android phones and iphone.

What are the names of the tools that allow you to transfer data from iPhone to Android AND/OR Android to Windows computer? Please provide URL(s), as well, if possible.

Thank you!

Well contacts and messages are also app data. But there are plenty of dedicated message backup apps which will create a backup on the sd card, and you can export your contacts to sd from the contacts app. Stuff on sd doesn't need a special backup app, you can just copy it over USB (this includes photos). App data are not visible that way, which is why a dedicated backup app is needed for that.

Turn on the MTP settings under USB connection Settings.
Connect your device to a USB port to your Laptop or PC.
Let the Laptop or PC began to install the appropriate software during the connection. Windows 10 OS will automatically do this for you.
After the process is complete depending on your internet speed, Windows 10 will have the name of your device (EXAMPLE) Samsung.
Make you a folder for what ever you want to backup or transfer.
Open device name from the list where it should be under My Computer or whatever you have your primary files directed to.
You will see Internal Storage and SD CARD listed under your device name.
Click on the device storage and look for the files you want saved and begin to right click copy and move to your new folder on your laptop or PC.

There are number of ways that can help you to backup Android data like contacts and photos and other data to PC. You can do it manually or even with the help of some professional software.
When we talk about a particular data like contacts to backup then here are few ways to do that:
1. Backup contacts to Gmail from Android phone
2. Use USB cable to directly backup data to PC
  • First, open Contacts app on Android phone
  • Then select Manage Contacts > Import/Export > Export to storage Doing this your contacts will be saved in VCF form in phone memory

  • After that, connect your device to the computer via USB cable and move to internal storage. Look for the contacts file, copy it, and then paste it on the computer.
3. Even you can use SD card to backup data from Android phone to computer

4. Use Bluetooth to backup data like contacts, photos etc and other data from phone to PC
