What's the point of a default browser?

I own a Huawei honor 9, with Android 7.0 and EMUI 5.1

When I opens a link in any app, it opens in a web view window with less functionality.
I have tried different settings but nothing works
What is the point of a default browser when all links opens in a web view window anyway.
Please help, anyone

On one my phones (Nougat 7.1.1) if I go into my Settings >> Apps menu in the top menubar there's a gear icon and when I tap on there app some various preset items to set app defaults. Is that what you've already tried? By stating 'tried different settings but nothing works' that's a little vague and is prone to repetitious replies. More details please.
Also are you referring the 'Android System Webview' app as that currently set default or is it some other browser app that's the problem? If you go back into the Settings >> App menu and open up that app, in its 'Open by default' section you might be able to clear it from being the default that way too.

I'm sorry. I agree. It was a little vague.
I have tried to turn off: Google -> Search -> Accounts & Privacy -> Open web pages in the Google app
I have tried to set the default browser: Settings -> Apps -> Settings -> Default app settings -> Browser -> Chrome/Opera/Firefox etc.

BUT What's the point of a default browser when all links opens in a web view window anyway???
The only times I see the default browser is when I open it myself.
You can see what happens in this video:
This is only a link since AndroidForums does not allow videos outside certain sites.

The point in having a default web browser set up is so when you're trying to open up a URL it opens up in the web browser. Looking at your video I'm not able to determine if you have any web browser actually set to be the default.
When you go into your phone's Settings >> Apps menu and tap on the Gear icon in the top menubar is your preferred web browse showing as the default? In that video that appears to be a messaging app, are you experiencing this same problem opening links with your email app?
