Pie - sync frequency change???

On all the other Android versions I have used I set most of my apps to sync every 30 minutes. This saves the battery and data use. I updated to Android 9 Pie within the last month and I can't seem to find this function anywhere.

I have been through my App List, opened the app to look at the settings. I know how to change the sync to OFF and manually run each one.

Any suggestions?

Which apps are you asking about? An OS update shouldn't change options within third-party apps, and certainly apps of mine which have options to set sync frequencies still have them. The manufacturer's own apps might change during an update though.

Google email and Facebook. Ever since I ran the update for Pie 9 my battery does not seem to last as long.

There can be many reasons why battery life can change, not just app sync. If it's a recent update the phone may even still be re-optimising.

I'm afraid those are 2 apps I can't help with. There have been enough FB updates that they could have removed sync controls at any point. They anyway have a well-deserved reputation for writing inefficient, battery-hogging software (I'd just like them to add a "stop posting notifications for stories and replies you know bloody well I've already looked at" setting - I think that's just an experiment on their part to see how much they can annoy me before I uninstall the app..). And I don't use the GMail app (don't even have it installed), but use IMAP push for my email rather than a scheduled sync.

The thing that drives me nuts the most is in less than 8 hours I lost 20% of battery and I'm not even moving.

Facebook sync scheduled has been removed for a very long time now. They released a Facebook Lite app that uses much less data. You can check that out.
The Gmail sync is dependent on the email app you use. However, battery savings depends on how many emails you receive per day. If you receive a lot of emails, syncing your email every hour or so will save battery yes. But if you receive like one email a day, setting it to a sync schedule will use up more battery than letting it stay on push.
