Chrome taking up massive amount of disk space

Hi

My phone has been giving me the infamous "Disk space is dangerously low" error for a while.

After investigating and deleting all my photo's and user data, Chrome still manages to use 7.5 GB. of disk space. I have deleted the user data, cache data en user history, and only managed to free up about 400 Mb. There are no other apps taking up space on my phone as I have deleted it all to try and solve the disk usage issue. Disabling the Chrome app doesn't solve this issue.

Even when my phone is plugged into the PC, I cant find any files that is taking up the space. Chrome is taking up more space than my phone's system memory (About 6.9 GB).

If anyone please can help me solve this issue, as it is making my phone unusable.

I can't install a lightweight browser as there is no space. I can't uninstall Chrome as it is bloatware that I can only disable. And even though I disable it, it doesn't free up any of the space.
SD Maid, and Ccleaner to really whipe that big space away :D

Something is misreporting your usage. If you disable Chrome it removes all of its data and all updates, meaning that it uses no space in the /data partition (the bit of the internal storage you can use). The pre-installed version lives in the /system partition, whose size is set by the manufacturer and does not change with app usage. If your phone manufacturer produces particularly bloated ROMs (Samsung, I'm looking at you) then the entire system partition might be that size, but Chrome itself is not.

The problem is that in order to install something I'd trust to report usage (e.g. DiskUsage) you need to clear some space. Maybe try clearing the caches of all of your apps (browsers and social media are the worst).

Chome is just plain junk, imo.
Slow and bloated seems to be the true intentions of that 'browser'.
Not to mention the spyware!

If you cannot get space back by clearing data and disabling, try uninstalling all of the updates to it.

That will bring it back down to where it was when you got the device.

Be sure that it is still disabled after you uninstall the updates.

been using chrome on my pc, phone, tablet and now my pixelbook. never had any issues with it. it runs smooth and fast. i have yet to find a reason to switch browsers.

not sure where you are getting spyware from, but it is not from chrome.

As far as I am concerned, Chrome (as are all Google apps) IS spyware.
It keeps record of every single thing you do online- storing it, selling it, using it, etc.. That pretty much qualifies it as spyware in my book.

Perhaps you just haven't been exposed to a browser that is so much better that you can't believe you would have ever thought about using Chrome?

Before I knew better, I used Chrome as well.
I still have no idea what 'cards' are, why I need them, or why I was pestered with them each time I opened the browser.
The constant notifications, the endless 'new' crap that I had no interest in, and all the other things that Chrome does that my better browsers don't is all part of the reasons that I don't use Chrome.

Pretty much any browser that uses the Android System Webview app built into your device is going to be faster than Chrome, even though Chrome use it too.

Currently, I use two.
FOSS Browser is my default browser, for opening links from e-mail and other apps.
Lightning is my workhorse, for my own browsing needs.

If you desire something that can use ad-ons, then there is a knock-off of Lightning called Smart Cookie that can do that.

i guess.....i'm just not the concerned about my privacy as most are. i have nothing to hide and sometimes the ads i see, i'm actually interested in. plus anytime you go online shopping, data is being stored and used else where. there really is no privacy any more IMHO.

cards? not sure what you mean. and i never get any notifications cuz i say no to those sites that ask if i want notifications.

sorry my chrome experience has been great. no ads, no popups, no notifications. it runs great. my phone runs well smooth with no issues on storage or slowing my phone.

I've never used Chrome because it was obvious that its purpose would be collecting data on your activities and interests for Google. I've never accepted the "I've nothing to hide" argument, and never accepted that a few commercial companies should be able to know that much about us and use it to manipulate us (commercial companies are far less accountable than Governments, and so in my book deserve even less trust).

I value my privacy and my freedom of choice. I also value other people privacy and their freedom of choice. Its not a that I have something to hide but I have nothing to prove either. If I say to someone whats your moms maden name, your physical adresss, your full name, drivers license number credit card numbers and all your passwords and follow that with "if you got nothing to hide".
I remember G+ saying "this person knows this person maybe you know them to" or something like that. I thought to my self if that person wanted me to know what's on their contact list they'd tell me.
