hi all,

used to use Contacts pro but sounds like that has gone very ad based :(

...have been using stock google apps but they are a bit poor ... the contacts app keeps losing my faves/star peeps :/

...ideally want it to prevent sending texts to landlines too

thanks

I've never had the stock Google app lose starred contacts. It's a bit of a weak app, especially its refusal to consider non-cloud contacts (it will handle contacts on non-google accounts, but has no way of storing phone-only contacts for people who don't want their details shared with any corporate server), but I've not had problems with it.

Maybe look in F-Droid, since apps there are at least unlikely to be full of ads. I've never personally made much use of third-party contacts apps.

I always send SMS from my message app rather than the contacts app, so I look for a "not to landlines" setting there instead.

Well the stock message app will be Google's one, and one thing Google apps have in common is that they offer the bare minimum options and very little customisation.

You can send texts to a landline here, but it's a bit silly: they arrive as voicemail-like things which a robot reads to you. I think that for the first month or so when it was introduced BT had Tom Baker's voice reading them. I guess they weren't going to pay for that on an ongoing basis, but of course dropping Tom's voice removed the only reason anyone would ever have for using the service ;).

Try Contacts, from Simple Mobile Tools, on F-Droid.

I don't know about limiting the landline texting, but I do know that when you enter a contact you specify what number type the number is, so when you pull up a contact you get your choice as to what number to call or text to.

I also am not aware as to how it would sync contacts across devices.

I don't have any issues, because even though I use Contacts (from Simple Mobile Tools) I left thestock contacts app enabled.

I don't use the stock app, but at least it syncs my contacts in the background.
