Help No longer have access to Google account

Hi,

I've got about 3 e-mail addresses associated with my S7. I recently lost access to my old uni e-mail and am now unable to update apps from the play store or download new ones (though there are some I can update manually which is strange). I believe the play store is linked to the e-mail I can no longer access which is causing the problems. I can't even seem to remove it from my phone as just get re-directed to university website to login when I attempt to do anything.

Spent some time searching for a solution as I figured it would be pretty common but found nothing (nothing helpful anyway). Does anyone have any ideas? Maybe a factory re-set or something? Not much on there that I care about, just want a functioning phone.

Cheers!

I cannot log into that google account at all any longer. My aim is to remove the account from my device and any association it has with any apps etc.

Apologies for the misplaced thread. New to forum.
if you have access to your phone you should be able to change accounts. what happens when you do? does it ask for a password? what about your gmail account? do you have access to that? when you set up your device, you initially used your university email and not gmail?

have you tried going thru googles account help so that you can sign in to your account?

My university email is a gmail account. When i first set up the phone i likely used that account; or i may have used a microsoft @live address. I have a google play services notification that i cannot remove saying that there us account action required on that uni gmail account.

I can switch to the other accounts within google play, but there are still some apps that i cannot update or re-download after uninstalling.

I appreciate your assistance, feel free to leave it with me and i can try to resolve the issue with google support. That is probably a more appropriate approach than this.

If you look in your Settings >> Accounts >> Google menu that will show the Gmail address your phone is set up as its primary I.D. Things like your Contacts and Calendar will sync with that online Google account. Your email app (or apps if you use more than one) will tend to default to that primary Google account but not exclusively so any email app being just its own email client can be re-configured to use any email service as necessary. But getting back to your original posting, if you've lost access to that original Gmail account and that's what your phone was originally set up to use, you need to go into that Settings >> Accounts >> Google menu, add your personal Google account and remove the old one. This probably won't be a seamless change though so be sure to back up all your data and files. It's a matter of changing user accounts so it's not trivial.

Once you do change your phone over to your own Google account, than things like the Play Store will be tied to your account..

Thanks for your response.

I'm going to have to be pretty careful about this. I think my google authenticator is linked to the gmail account I can't access. I have backup codes written down for some things, but not all. Going to look into how to backup everything without actually having any access to the e-mail it's linked to. Indeed it does not seem trivial.
