Won't download anything

I have been given an old HLG710H Android Ver 2.1 that I want to use as a WiFi device only. I did a factory reset and am able to connect to my WiFi network. The search engine works, but that's as far as I can get. When I try to open any site I get a security message or "this browser is no longer supported". I have had no luck trying to download Google Play, or Chrome, or any other browser. Any suggestions?

With a phone that dated, don't expect too much from as far as online connectivity. The Internet is a much more advanced, and hazardous, place for a phone that old. Most online services won't work or will with very limited functionality when it comes to such dated software. It's also a matter where you should be wary using that phone to anything involving online access, there are serious privacy and security issues too.

This is an old android version. There is probably the compatibility problem. Newer app versions require newer Android versions to work with.

Thanks for the come backs all. I rather expected that age would be the problem

Hi Robert,

Yes, I've still got my HTC Desire S which was my first Android device bought in 2011, running 2.3.5.

It's still in (almost) full working order and is a great little music player apart from the headphone output which is distorted but bluetooth still works.

I have PAYG SIM in it so it's also useful as a spare/emergency phone.

I managed to get Opera Mini browser downloaded but for the reasons stated by others do not intend using it for accessing the internet. It is far too slow when compared to current devices, as well as the security issues.

:)
