Negotiating monthly cost with Verizon

Hey guys. Quick question.

I currently hold a preorder for the HTC EVO, but the Incredible is just an enticing to me.

The main reason I want the EVO over the Incredible is because of the price. The monthly cost on it is $80 for their Everything Data Plan. It appears that a very similar plan on Verizon with the HTC Incredible would cost me at least $100 per month.

Here's my question. If I were to walk into a Verizon store with an EVO preorder receipt in hand, would they be willing to bring the monthly cost down to the EVO's level in order to snatch me up as a new customer? I'm currently on AT&T and can't wait to ditch my iPhone 3G.

I wouldn't think VZ is that hungry for business that they would consider a 20% discount per month, nearly $500 over 2 years, just because you might go with another provider.

I doubt it. In my experience, they do little things when they need to but otherwise they are tight with their money. They need it to pay for such a great network

Have you checked if you get a Verizon discount through your employer?

I get 25% off on voice plans and additional services (text, data, etc).

Never hurts to try! I havent negotiated too much with vzw because i have been happy with them. But they have done some small things that i have asked...but on my tv services they are cut throat to get you to switch and you just have to call back and forth with better offers and they try to best the competition. It was a lot of fun when i was thinking of switching from dish network to direct tv. I felt like...wait for it...I was the customer and they wanted my business!! Too many people forget this!

No, cant negotiate price plans. If your employer qualifies you for a discount then you may be in luck but you would be looking at 89.99 for unlimited talk and text and 29.99 for unlimited data. The best a rep could do for you is waive activation fees and maybe throw in an accessory but you have to understand, your not getting the same network service, dependability or customer service. It's similar to going into a foot locker and saying "Hey, I can get a pair of basketball shoes from walmart for xxx so why not give me those Jordans over there for the same price" lol

Verizon:
450 minutes - $59.99/mo + $30/mo for data = ~$90
900 minutes - $79.99/mo + $30/mo for data = ~$110
Unlimited - $89.99/mo + $30/mo for data = ~$120

Sprint:
450 minutes - $69.99/mo + $10/mo for 4G = ~$80
900 minutes - $89.99/mo + $10/mo for 4G = ~$100
Unlimited - $99.99/mo + $10/mo for 4G = ~$110

They are about the same.

I thought Sprint was $69.99 for unlimited (+ $10 for 4G).

What's your occupation? Chances are you're a member of some sort of society that will offer a discount. Your employer could offer a discount. Heck, you might be married to someone who gets a discount, or your family (extended or not) could possibly get a discount. Catch my drift?

My professional society offers a discount, but my employer also offers one.

Lastly, the cost difference between VZW and Sprint is negligible considering VZW's customer service. My gf was previously on Sprint, and I had her call VZW regarding some call issues. She was impressed by the customer service. Using the network, she was impressed. She's impressed after eeing how quickly things get done when I call VZW for something, even if it's trivial (bordering on petty).

Then again, $10-$20 per month difference adds up to some nice toys. Either way, Sprint's 4G is pretty low budget, their 3G coverage is somewhat low budget, and VZW/ATT are going to get legitimate 4G coverage in the future.

This is what you need to be doing. Check to see if you or your wife or anybody else in your house qualifies for an employee discount. We get 22% of our cellular service and 25% discount on accessories plus if you call and talk to a rep on the phone they usually cut you a little better deal on devices upgrades.

Yeah I tried to negotiate when I was going to order, I was out of contract so I thought that was the best shot I would get, I used the Sprint Everything plan as a negotiating tool and said I was thinking of switching to Sprint.

They from what I have been told will never give you a discount on your monthly fee's unless you get an employer discount of course ... they however did give me a $50 credit toward my next bill as a valued customer discount, so if that will help you out you can try that, I did it through emailing them.

I heard Sprint charges an extra $10 a month for "premium data". They keep it pretty much under wraps but if you get an EVO you have to pay it.

That $10 is on top of everything else you pay (including regular data).

I could've sworn I would've received unlimited minutes (which I would've needed since everyone I know is on VZW) for $69.99.

Well you would be able to talk to verizon phones. the Everything plan covers everything but calling land line phones (you get 450 minutes for that, plus night and weekend)

Example - If you call from an Sprint Evo to your friend with an ATT Iphone it's unlimited, same if you call someone on Verizon.

I will be sticking with Verizon too just because my folks live in the sticks and no one gets service out there except for Verizon

Yeah, the sprint call plan page is laid out really poorly. Its confusing. They have a bunch of plans with similar names and similar features but different prices. The minutes is really tiny in the corner.

Ahh, then that's what I was thinking of. Either way, Sprint would've been more than the $64+tax I'm paying on Verizon. And I got the Incredible for $120 after discounts. Can't argue with that.

<sigh> Military personnel only get 15% base and 12% accessories. Nothing unusual there....most places I can get better discounts than military. I think those signs everyone hangs should say "We support our troops last."

Absolutely no negotiating with VZ. They dont care, they make a lot of money because of their prices. But then again you get what you pay for...service everywhere.
