2.2 on Sprint Hero

Hello, I have not been in touch with Hero news, I've been mostly on the Epic's. I was wondering if I can root my Hero with the Cyanogen (idk if its spelled correctly) thing. I've never rooted before so I was wondering if I could bc I want my Hero to be fast and not so freakin laggy anymore. I hear that rooting helps a lot, so I am willing to do it (since i realized I wont be getting the Epic :/)
