Accelerometer? Shake for linked command.

Any way to create an app that has certain 'moves' as input command, and can start a program or function?
I was thinking of tapping the screen so I can stealthly record conversation for instance, but of course a phone in standby mode and in ones pocket will not take the tapping command.
If one were to shake the phone or press the standby button and then pressing the screen a certain amount of times, maybe that can be used as input for program to take predefind action to.

I think this would be technically possible as you could run a background service that listens for a 'shake' or other input and then starts the Voice recorder.
