Any word on JB for Verizon?

I've been patiently waiting while everybody else in the WORLD gets Jelly Bean on their GS3s. Any word when Verizon is gonna get around to this??

Well they had an article a few days ago about the Canada S3 getting the update Dec. 3. Speculation is AT&T and Verizon would be shortly behind...but know knows. It's a mystery

Verizon's just trying to be extra careful that all the bugs are worked out before they release the update because they care about their customers so very much. ;)

Yeah, amazing how it took them 3 months to give the OK for an update on a nexus device.

That's a lot of caring. That must be where the nickname big red came from, they have such big caring hearts

I read this as Verizon wanting to maximize their time in adding more bloatware.:)

I've heard of a final build, but who knows. Also heard the HTC DNA release delayed it. Also heard all Verizon cares about is Motorola. Idk. I have my s3 with them. Service is awesome, but you'd think the biggest carrier in the US would be pushing this update. Sad face.

Samsung is chronically been the slowest to update their phones on Verizon. The Galaxy S was the same way. The Galaxy Nexus is now 3 updates behind the N4, N7, and N10! It's chronic, and no sign of changing anytime soon. Look how much later the Note 2 just released compared to the rest? But the latest Moto and HTC super phones released on them FIRST. Go figure.

Right on.

Well its common knowledge that Big Red and Moto have a very friendly relationship to say the least...

I mean between the two of them they arguably made it possible for Android to be what it is today with the OG Droid...

Good observation. I think that it may also be the sheer size of the Verizon network/number of customers- if there is something wonky with the update, there would be a lot more customers involved.

I'm guessing tho it has more to do with the bloatware/Verizon apps & making sure they play well with 4.1...

I think this may be it as well. While I am pissed that it's taking Verizon so long, I would rather them get it right than rush it. BUT with them taking this damn long, it had BETTER be right!

Give Verizon a break! It takes time to add and test all the bloatware they need to install.:slug:

I love this rumor --> "Vendor "X" has to add their Blaotware this is why it takes so long for them to get "Y" release out to the public". All people complain about their vendor and their product even Nexus owners.

The addition of Bloatware is likely to be one of the smaller/est time consumers in this process.

Each vendor has independent requirements to fulfill with the FCC upon release of these updates. They in fact have to test that the phone will continue to meet the exacting standards the FCC requires. They also will likely test to see if this release causes them grief "ie.. the number of Sleep of Death or Random Reboots or ...". Many of these releases have had issues. Just ask ASUS about their releases for their Transformer line. They released early and got beaten about the head and shoulders from the public for releasing something that was "not ready for prime time".

ASUS also had a large number of people contact customer service, ask for refunds, RMA devices, complain on forums, ..., ...

This is a balancing act for each vendor. Release early (possible bugs), release too late (still possible bugs but less likely). Finding the right time is an art form in software :)

The manufacturer does the vast majority of the effort required to update a device.

Overseas...
Once the manufacturer gives it the stamp of approval, the update goes out to international phones as an ota right then and there.

In the us...
Once the manufacturers give their stamp of approval, the update goes to the carriers, who add their bloatware and do further "quality control" testing. They usually release the update as an ota 2-3 months after the international update.

Carriers are really not needed in this process. People have a right to be upset by the delay

I can't seem to win. I had AT&T and the S3. I switch to Verizon, who seemed to have a decent reputation for phone upgrades, and they haven't impressed me. Great network but really ridiculous on updates.

Yes but you are using ASUS as a basis of comparison. They have a worse track record in quality control/customer service compared to Samsung...although, one could argue not by considerable margin.

Also, does Verizon realize that the majority of its users don't want a thing to do with the bloatware they put on the phone? I haven't used anything Verizon slapped on this phone.
