Anyone heard if we're any closer to the UK SNote ICS update?

Hello members, just wondering if UK Galaxy Note users are any closer to getting ICS, my phone isn't tied to any UK mobile provider, as was purchased not 'locked' but I am with the network '3' here in the uk

I don't want to 'root' my phone, or install an independent ICS version but would rather wait for the official update to arrive, only there was always talk of it arriving around the second quarter of the year?

Any members insight info would be great.
Regards

No sign on mine in the UK either.

Had to lol reading that other thread re: Will Jelly Bean come to the Note? It's a valid question, I'm not slamming the topic creator, but I won't be holding my breath, regardless whether it's a big os upgrade or incremental.

I for one won't be buying another Android handset with any intention of expecting any update, as none of the manufactures seem capable.

I'm the same. I bought the Note with my eyes wide open though, it ticked the most boxes for what I was looking for. Ideally, I wanted vanilla Android, but the lack of sd card slot on the Nexus and it's frankly pathetic 16gb killed that idea completely - I like hd video and high quality music stored locally, hence my 80gb Note is heaven sent.

My next phone, which is probably a long way off as I'm very satisfied with the Note, will either be a 4.8"+ Nexus equivalent with sd card slot or, a very slim possibility, the next iPhone. I say slim, because the chances of the next iPhone being any bigger than 4" are practically non-existent. Hard to even conceive of getting a phone less than 4.5" now, never mind 4". Which is a shame as, don't shoot me, I'd personally prefer iOS (though I'm no fanboy).

I'm locked with Orange and received ICS a week ago. Have to say that despite all the hype I've not noticed any major differences EXCEPT some battery problems. Other than that you aren't really missing anything - its really rather disappointing.

Just remembered I bought phone through Amazon Germany (cheaper at the time) so maybe thats why I got ICS already

I too am unlocked, in the uk using Orange on my SG Note.

Also checking everyday for the ICS update..... given my Sim contract is with Orange UK, but I bought the phone from a UK retailer, unlocked, will Orange UK send me the update if I ring them?

BUT if I go down that route successfully will my ICS functionality be reduced 'cos of the "Orange-isation"?

It's Chrome I really want above all else, I don't rate the browsers available and I've tried pretty much all of them.

I thought it rolled out to UK users over a week ago?

Germany started getting it on the 9th or 10th of the month. It's been spotted in various countries around Europe and in the UK for folks who bought their Notes from amazon.de but not a peek for those that bought their Note from within the UK.

Its not got flash though ! I was waiting for ICS for Chrome then saw this.

TBH I wouldn't worry about ICS - its smoother but thats. I'm sure theres inconsistent problems like most issues I've come across on Android - my phone app dies/locks up and forces a restart, but others dont/it doesn't always do this! My battery is pants now. Others the battery is ok.
Mines super smooth now whereas before it was choppy. Others its the reverse.
Google Nav locks the phone if I pull it off charge before exiting the app - didnt on GB!

ONLY thing putting me off android is inconsistent problems even though same model and same version as others...I'm sure most have experienced this...!

Hi Rikkl,
Actually a battery drain problem. Since ICS some apps (Maildroid mail client & Dolphin Browser once each) seem to be looping, hogging CPU time, slurping up the battery and seriously overheating the phone. No idea if its ICS, Touchwiz, the apps or even a faulty phone causing it but whatever its a pain.

Agree with some posts above that ICS is kind of disappointing after all the hype but then all the bloggers and news sites need to say something good or bad - disappointing isn't news :)

I used an iPhone for 3.5 years, tbh I never missed flash then and I never use it since going Android, so I'm not too fussed. Your other points are worrying though, ICS on the Note doesn't exactly sound inspiring.....

I can't wait for my contract to be up and get another iPhone. At least Apple are consistent with updates. Much more reliable.

Personally, I'd take a phenomenal phone with rare updates over a POS Apple I-anything that only updates so often because Apple have to enable features in the device that were already present (hardware wise) but they felt you needed to wait for. Hell, I'd downgrade my note to Android 1.6 before switching to Apple. See this is why people are now bitching saying that ICS doesn't change the note enough. When Apple update a product, they introduce a load of 'new' features. Only they aren't new, they have just been enabled using software.

The problem is, from day 1 my Galaxy Note has been pretty much all it can be. ICS will simply be a light dusting of sugar onto an already superb cake.

But hey, these are just my opinions. So if you're reading this and about to throw a massive bitch tantrum, ask yourself this: "Do I really care what some random internet person thinks?"

No?

Neither do I.

I totally agree. I have also found that this minor issue with the ICS update has halved my screen size and resolution, reduced the processing power, removed my ability to change the battery, stolen my stylus and locked me down to a single user interface. I might as well go with Apple too.

I issue a wry smile at the troll.

I did install the Official German ICS release to my Orange UK Note - very underwhelmed. I have since reverted back to gingerbread.

I was very keen to get ICS and becoming frustrated that it wasn't available - but having had it - there is no reason for the fuss and excitement. Premium Suite - again don't get excited as even when I managed to find it I didn't use it.

There is very little different with ICS on the Note once Touchwiz has been applied so there really is no point in getting excited. It is very much a case of spot the difference. Bear in mind that you will not be getting pure vanilla ICS but Samsung's version with Touchwiz.

I found ICS to be quite unstable with many self reboots. Battery life was poor and the phone got very hot. Battery life with Gingerbread for me at the end of the day was on 75-80% but with ICS 10-15%.

I am tempted that even if I get the notification that ICS is available I may well stick with gingerbread. When the next ICS 4.0.4? is released I may try it again once the problems have been resolved.

So all in all - calm down it really is not worth getting excited/worked up about enjoy the Note as an excellent device as it stands.

Having said all this - I may be interested in installing Cyanogenmod at some point to get pure Vanilla ICS once it has been around for a bit longer and inevitable problems resolved.
