Help Application for Twitter/Facebook combo (that actually works!)

So it looks like HTC Sense for Twitter is unlikely to be fixed with a new authentication procedure anytime soon, which means that I can only really use Friendstream for Facebook updates.

So I wondered, in the absence of HTC Sense are there any recommendations for good apps that combine both the Twitter and Facebook services?

I should point out that I've already tried Tweetdeck, but it misses quite a few Facebook updates out (I've tested it against the FB mobile site and it works fine for the first day or so, but after that it resorts to only displaying about one in three facebook updates).

Any advice, greatfully received.

Use Facebook app/widget for FB, Twitter app/widget for Twitter - easiest way. Do away with FS altogether! :D

Many thanks for the advice Eddy, but I like the idea of an "All in one" app. Tweetdeck is ideal, it just doesn't work!

I shall run with separate apps for now though as you suggested until someone develops something else.

Tweetdeck does it for me.

As per my last post, I've managed to prove (twice) that Tweetdeck misses out FB posts and is therefore pointless having. :( Furthermore, I have reported this bug to the developers and have had no response at all.

Thanks for your input anyway though.

Thanks Jim for your recommendation, I'll give it a go.

having said that, i'm using Tweetdeck and haven't experienced the "missing posts" bug. has it been reported anywhere?

Have you tested it?

The way I found it was I left it for a few hours, then went down the Facebook feed on my computer and the Facebook feed on Tweetdeck - and there were only about a third of the posts had been pushed to Tweetdeck (and they were just simple status updates that were missing too - no complicated links or anything).

And yes it's been reported - I reported it! No word from the developer yet though.... :(

i checked Tweetdeck when i first installed it to verify the reliability and i also keep tabs on my facebook and twitter accounts but i don't see any differences on a day to day basis.

i checked it just now too and i appear to have everything.

Launcher pro is installed from market place. Changes the look of the phone, and use as a launcher instead of sense.

sense does not stop you trying it, you may like it better..

Again, thanks for your input. I have tried Launcher Pro, ADW and Go Launcher, but none of them even compare to HTC Sense. Plus I really don't like the idea of having a launcher running on top of another launcher - why have 2 things running when you can just have one (I'm not rooted, don't forget).

How are the notifications in it? Facebookwise...

The notifications are 'Boss', it's just the status updates I've found get missed out. Other users report no issues, but at the end of the day if it misses even one status update its reliability is thrown into question. What's to say it isn't going to miss other posts?

I like the look and feel of Seesmic, but its missing the combined thread.

I tried this last night, and it's a great app but I don't like the little icon that goes with the status updates on Facebook (i.e. "updated 3 minutes ago via Seemic, etc.")

Just looking at the above - it's a good job I don't have any real problems isn't it!! ;)

UPDATE:

Yesterday I decided to give Tweet Deck one last chance. So far, so good.

Not sure what the issue was before, but I'm wondering if the Facebook for Android app interfers with it. For example, if I open FB for Android, and it downloads the latest posts - Tweet Deck might log in and see that they have already been downloaded and think to itself "Oh, I've already downloaded them, I won't download them again".

I'll give it until the end of the week before I make my final decision.

Meanwhile, thank you all for your comments and help.

Tweetdeck for a full app, pure messenger widget for a homescreen widget.

Pure messenger widget also optionally displays email, exchange, phone calls and sms messages.

+1 for pure messanger. yes it costs but it does twitter, facebook and everything else you mentioned (now k9 mail too) in one widget.

It works better on Launcher pro because launcher pro supports scrollable widgets. Not sure how it works on sense.

+2 for pure messenger. Trying it along with Go Launcher was the final thing that moved me away from LauncherPro (@StevenSeed, not that you're interested in trying either LP or Go Launcher based on your previous comments, but I'm just saying). Pure allows me to quickly skim and even reply to updates, and I still have the option of jumping into the main app for either FB or twitter to get their specialised features.

Oh, and I also have Tweetdeck but haven't experienced the issue you described.

I'm wondering whether it's an issue with my phone? No one else seems to have experienced this, yet I am definitely experiencing it. I think that's the most frustrating thing for me is the fact that I know it's happening, but because it's not happening to me no one seems to believe me!

I have emailed the developer to ask him if Pure Messenger will work on Sense. If it's a yes, I'll pay a few quid for that as you guys seem to like it.

Again, thanks for your comments and contributions.

Right, don't worry this will be my last update on the subject.

It's my phone.

It must be - I just tried installing Go Launcher, and then Pure Messenger and it was still missing updates. Furthermore, didn't really care much for the Pure Messenger widget layout - thought it looked really untidy. Good service from the developer though - he answered my questions promptly.

So, I can either do a factory reset, which if I'm bored one day I'll do, or I can wait another 5 months and I'll be due an upgrade.

Thanks for all your comments.
