Help Atrix Wifi with Linksys WRT54G

anyone else having issues with their atrix connecting to a WRT54G? my atrix (2nd atrix phone, by the way) randomly disconnects often. then it will try to "obtain IP address", fail, rescan, try to "obtain IP address" again, fail, etc.

if anyone has a good connection with their WRT54G, can you please share your router settings?

this is a deal killer me if this problem persists. it's ridiculously pathetic that such a new and powerful device can't do the simple and common task of maintaining a wifi connection. my old iphone 3G has a strong signal no matter where i am in the house. meanwhile, the wifi signal on the "all powerful" atrix significantly drops just couple rooms away.

I've got that router, but it's about 6 years old now, and runs a recent release of tomato. If you have the linux compatible one (recently rebadged as WRT54G-L), I'd recommend running tomato on it or dd-wrt if you want the extra configurability.

Also just for a reference point, try setting up a static IP/gateway/DNS.

screw this POS phone. i've tried all sorts of different settings on my router and the atrix still randomly disconnects. i don't understand how it is able to connect, then randomly disconnect, and then be unable to reconnect. seriously, WTF?! beyond stupid. i'd blame the router, but every other device in my home stays connected without any problems whatsoever, yet this brand new supposedly "advanced" phone has a difficult time with such a simple task. and this is already my SECOND atrix phone!

what's the point of all the great hardware if it absolutely blows at the simplest (and most important) tasks. i'm done. i'm returning this POS this weekend and going back to my old iphone 3G. yea, it's slower, but at least it's able to fricken function.

Check the SSID name of the router. Some devices do NOT like a mutli-word name and will connect then disconnect in a somewhat random pattern:

router or myrouter = works

my router or this is my router = does NOT work

I discovered this when trying to get my HTC phones and my daughter's iPod Touch to connect to the router, and after hours of hair-pulling I finally figured it out. The phones and iPod now connect just fine and stay connected. I don't need a fixed IP either. I don't have an Atrix yet, but will in another day or so, and will check to make sure it works ok.

I have that router and no problem. But my wife's atrix has the intermittent wifi disconnection. This is easily reproducible by using the android market. I'm going to try to reset her phone to factory this weekend. If that does not work then I'll exchange it.

Try setting it for a static IP first!

I can try the static IP, but it does not explain why my atrix works and hers doesn't. I set up both of them the same way.

just as an update, wifi has been working fine with the static IP setup (thanks, DT). that said, i still think it's effing lame that this even needs to be done to get a stable connection.

but given rizaldi's post about two atrixes performing differently on the same fricken router, i'm now beginning to think there may have been some bad batches of atrixes made. lovely.

I did a factory reset on my wife's atrix and still have the same problem. I exchanged it with a new atrix from the store and set it up again. However it's still have the problem. I'm so frustrated now.
