Root Bad Video Recording (10 second lags in video, screen tear, audio lag, etc.)

So I have been having problems with my video lately. Any time I take a video longer than about 20 seconds, the file ends up getting messed up. At a certain point, it looks like it stops, and then it plays again. Audio and video lag. Sometimes together, sometimes the audio stops a few seconds after the video. I will get screen tear sometimes before or during lags. It's just all around bad. I am rooted, but I am pretty sure that's not causing any issues. I have a theory that I think my memory card might not be fast enough, since I got the new memory card for Christmas, and I think the only times I have had issues with it has been since then. Of course that's also about the time I rooted my phone, but is it possible it's just the memory card? I got a 16gb micro SD from Sandisk, which is only a class 4 card (it was a gift, I would have bought class 10 from someone else) and I wonder if the class 4 is just not fast enough to keep up with the HD video. Any input would be appreciated.

it could be a bad card. have you tried wiping dalvik cache and cache? what rom are you on?

Its very possible that the class 4 card is having problems keeping up with HD video. A few months after I got my EVO I got a 16 GB class 10 and haven't looked back.

What ROM/Kernel are you on?

Sooo I decided to put my old memory card in to try to see if it was the memory card, and apparently all or part of my rom was stored on the memory card, because when I tried to reboot the phone with the old card in it, it loaded my background and notification bar, but no unlock screen. Wouldn't even load up the power options. So I had to do a nandroid restore. I found out that the latest nandroid backup I made was quite a while ago, which was actually with my previous rom. I need to load up the rom I had once I figure out which one I had which I liked so well. I know it was a mik rom that was not sense 3.0, it was 2.something, but it had a lot of good features and ran a lot smoother than the 3.0 rom I tried. Anyway, I am gonna try to find it again, load it again, and see if I still have issues with the video. I'll check back later.

Sounds like you were on mikg. The current version is 3.11. Might be a good time to update if you aren't on it already

I was on the 2.61. I found the file still on the memory card, so I wiped it and re-flashed the rom and it works fine now. I lost my apps, but my pictures and contacts are where they were before. No big deal. I took video with it, but nothing crazy with action, just walking around, and it lagged a little bit. I think it may be the card that can't keep up. I think when I get some money I'm gonna snatch up a 32 gig with a 10 rating, and I can use it in whatever new phone I get. Then I will see if it works better with the new card.
