Battery

This seems to hapoen only to me. My battery drains 30 or 40 percent per hour. I try to install an app but for some stuoid reason Android does not allow battery monitoring. It did tell me 54% of the battery was used by CPU.

Hkw do I find the battery hogs? There is probably stuff running I don't want.

Before you get too crazy installing battery-related utilities, just keep in mind most of the apps that claim to be battery managers are just going to interfere with Android's integral power management. There are some pretty good battery monitoring apps like GSam and AccuBattery though, that distinction being they're just that, they monitor things giving you more expansive power information, not messing with existing power management. That said, you can first check your Pixel's Settings >> Battery menu and see what that tells you. There's also battery optimization options there to look into too.

A good first step in diagnosing a battery problem is to simply reboot into Safe Mode. This temporarily disables your installed applications. If fast battery drain improves while in Safe Mode, it's a safe bet that one (or more) of your installed apps is causing the drain.

Apps like AccuBattery and GSam can also help to identify the source of the drain, though (like svim mentions) I kind of hate using third-party utilities since they themselves add to the drain...

Google has a tool called Battery Historian which can be used by developers for troubleshooting the battery drain from their apps - and can also be used by average users as well. You basically just need to generate a bug report package, import that into Battery Historian, and it will give you extremely details information about what's going on. There's a guide on how to use it on reddit and a hosted instance you can use here: https://bathist.ef.lc/.

Good luck!

I started the bug report yesterday. I don't think it finished yet. I did not get a notice. Hiw long should it take?

Why do you say Android doesn't allow battery monitoring?

Settings > Battery, then tap the little 3 dot icon and it will show you your app usage. Tap it again to include system apps (those are instructions for Oreo or Android P, but I assume you are running one or the other).

Apps like GSam and AccuBattery definitely work on the Pixel. You may need to grant some permissions, either within the app or via ADB, but it should tell you if so. BetterBatteryStats has the instructions in its Play Store entry, I think AccuBattery just needed permissions granting within the phone, can no longer remember for GSam but I definitely had it working in Oreo (edit: I've checked and it does need a couple of adb commands to let it see app usage).

It definitely shouldn't take that long. You'll see an ongoing notification while the bug report is being generated, followed by a new notification stating "Bug report #X captured".

You can then open the built-in Files app, swipe out the left-hand navigation pane, and tap on the Bug Reports option to view the saved reports.

I just captured a report on my Pixel 2 and it took about five minutes.

Here is some tips that could save battery life.
1. Lower Screen Brightness
2. Tighten Up Auto-Lock the shortest period for your device, namely 30 seconds.
3. Turn off Wi-fi if You Don't Need It
4. Limit Background Refresh for Applications
5. Restrict Unimportant Notifications
6. Don't Update Apps Automatically
7. Do not Activate Location Service
8. Use Low Power Mode

I have done all except limit background refresh. Do you kniw how to do that?

Ok. I have a new one. It only attached to email but I can't find it now to upload. Do you know where it would be stored?

Open the built-in Files app, swipe out the left-hand navigation pane, and tap on the Bug Reports option to view the saved reports.

Alternatively, you can just email it to yourself.
