Is there a Note 3 specific way to make the status bar black or transparent yet?

Mine appears to be transparent already.

Mine's been transparent since day one. I didn't have to do anything. I don't see a way to turn it black in Settings > Device > Notification panel. I'm using the t-mobile version.

Using Nova launcher, it's black with option to make transparent. I prefer transparent.

See?! THIS is why I hit the forums! I USE Nova and totally spaced on the fact that a transparent status bar might be a function of the LAUNCHER and not the system.

Thanks so much for this, simple answer.

Which begs the question - Is everyone else whose notification area already transparent due to a 3rd party launcher or was it transparent out the box?

Yup. Well, semi-transparent on Touchwiz, but still transparent.

If you're rooted you can make the status bar any color you want and even change the color of the battery and items in the notification tray using Xposed framework and Wanam Xposed.
