Boot Animation for my Wife

Go here: Free Online Image Editor
Click "File" > "Open". Browse for the file you want to convert and make sure you check "Convert during upload" selected to PNG. This will split a GIF into PNG frames. you can try this also.

Well, if we are working from a Youtube video that long, that method won't work too well. First, you'd have to have a Youtube downloader that would export it into GIF format, then I doubt that online program would convert a file that large. You also really don't want to use PNGs if you want a nice video clip because they are just way too large. At the kind of resolution we have and the amount of space savings, it's much better to use JPGs. I've been running around most of the day, so not really sure when I will get a chance to mess with this. I already have it downloaded, just not converted yet.

Alright, so at long last, here we go. 2 different sizes for 2 different phones. Sized for Eris and Droid. Pretty sure you can tell which is which by the names. Be sure to rename to bootanimation.zip before rebooting to test it out. Sorry that the Droid one is just slightly blurry. Between resizing a couple of times and not wanting to set the quality on the converter to 100 as it increases the size of the zip file too much, it's not as crisp as it could be. Anyway, if it's that bad, I can redo it some other time, but for now:

Just in case you have another phone and are wondering which one will work best for you, check your phone's resolution and choose the one closest to it.
Eris = 320 x 480
Droid = 480 x 427

What did you do to try to customize it? One of the main things about when you zip the animation back up is using the No or Store Compression level on your zip program, depending on which one you use. If that doesn't work, just send me a PM with it attached or upload it to a site and give me the link and I'll fix it up for you.

Chaos,it worked out well. Appreciate the efforts! Wife is happy for now
Cool! Glad it's working for you guys :)

Any chance I could get someone to help me with a custom boot animation? I was trying to make an animation of out this gif...

http://whf.monobasin.net/streetfighter/chunlifireballsuper.gif

I wanted to have the attack hit an Apple logo http://ntt.cc/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/Glass_Apple_Logo_by_DaVinciARtisTe_thumb.png, then have a Droid logo http://mediacontender.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/droid-logo.jpg appear when the attack finishes.

Unfortunately, I completely suck using photoshop...

I got so far as extracting the individual frames and converting to png. But, when I did the background was an off white and I don't have a steady enough mouse hand (or WACOM) to change the background to black.

If anyone would be so kind as to help me out (maybe some photoshop tricks or shortcuts if you don't have the time...), I would be extremely grateful!
