Once you learn how to do it though, you can do the whole thing with a knife in about 15 seconds. Any smooth-blade (not serrated) knife will do, from a 1" toy to a 12" hunting knife. (I've even used a machette once, just because it was within reach so I didn't have to get up to get a knife.)
