Help Cannot assign custom ringtones anymore

I just got a Photon last week and am loving it! I stepped up from a basic phone and a iTouch 4th gen for music and games and I cannot believe the power and customization available for the price (I got it at a $50 promotional price). There is just one problem.

After I got it I was able to assign a custom ringtone from the Internet (from a VG music site I visit). Now I decided to change it I can't! I seem to remember that I can assign a custom ringtone from the Browser by just clicking on the file, but the only options I get are to open it up with either Music or XiiaLive Lite. I feel like I'm missing something important.

The odd part? When I go to change my ringtone in Settings it lists the ringtones but not the custom one I assigned before (even though it still rings with that file) where it once did.

Can anyone help?

Did you try long press, to see if it gives you options to set up as ringtone on the phone?

I've personally never set up ringtones this way. I prefer just having the hard file on my phone, where I know where to find it and know it'll work. If you want to learn how to set that up (in a manner that will work for all your future android phones), check this thread out:

That's the most surefire way to have ringtones be usable on your phone, no matter what phone it is, since they're on your microSD. I don't personally like setting up ringtones via the internet or via soundboard apps, where I don't know how to find them in the event they get deleted (in a hard reset or some other reason).

Even for soundboard apps that I've downloaded from the market...Once I've found the ringtone that I want and it's been enabled, I just search for the file, put it in my ringtone folder, and remove the soundboard app.

Thanks! That did it. :)

Great! Glad it worked. I'd definitely set up the folders as I had suggested though. That way, you're set up for the life of having an Android phone that also has a micro SD. A few minutes of setup, while the phone is connected to a computer, can save a ton of time later down the line.

What's even better is that, as time goes on, you can just continue to add to that library of ringtones when creating your own using Rindroid or any other ringtone creator app. The customizations of android are endless. And, when you're comfortable enough to root, adding ringtones to startup sounds and others that aren't accessible (without rooting) becomes an option as well.
