I have been having a problem with my s2 for a few weeks new that involves charging it. Sometimes (more than half of the time i plug my phone in to the wall to charge) my phone recognizes the charger as a USB cable like it is hooking up to a computer. It also says "MTP-Connected" in the notifications drop down bar. Can anyone help me out with this, explaining what it means and if it is even possible to make it so it does not recognize it as a USB and make it charge normally? Also, whenever this happens, it takes about 4x the time for my phone to recharge. Any help is appreciated because it is annoying as all hell that my phone takes so long to recharge! Thanks!

It's a bad cable. You more than likely have damaged conductors which increases the impedance. That means you are getting a low enough current to trick your phone into thinking it is plugged in to a USB port on a computer (USB on computers usually put out less than 500mA where AC chargers put out 1000mA). Go get yourself another USB cable/charging cable and you'll go back to normal.
