Help contacts fault

Hope someone can help me. If I try to create a new contact on my HTC Magic, it will confirm that it has been created but will not appear in my contacts list. Alternatively, it will appear, but will not be there next time i look in contacts. This is a recent fault and is driving me mad...help!!

My HTC Magic has just developed the same fault but I am reluctant to interfere with the contacts at anything other than the basic level in case I lose all my existing contacts. Help anybody?

Have you tried working with the contacts from gmail on a pc? Anything you setup there should sync to the phone.
