Do apps run natively or are they interpreted.

WIth the lawsuit over Davlik/Java what I hear is that apps are supposed to be written in Davlik and compiled to a JVM instead of native code. This makes sense because the apps don't have to worry about the platform, but it would suggest that the apps take a performance hit too.

Is it true?
