Double spacing after every word

After some recent updates my GT-N7105 phone using Android 4.4.2 I get two spaces after a word I choose from the auto-suggest list when typing, rather than one as normal. How can I get it back to putting one space in rather than the two?

For example, I start typing "gr" and then select "great" from the suggested words, then I get "great " rather than just "great ".
