How to Install

This is a fullwipe scenario from other roms or Dragon ICS v1.x. Do the following in CWM Recovery:
- Wipe Data / Factory Reset
- Wipe Cache
- Wipe Dalvik Cache (in advanced)
- Wipe Battery Stats
No need to repeat. Then install the zip from sd card (or internal sd card). It uses the nice Aroma installer that the new D4 uses. Excellent installation interface and much more satisfying than an auto-installer in CWM.

If you're coming from Dragon ICS v2.x, just wipe cache, dalvik and battery stats and you'll be good to go!

So what's good about this ROM?

1. It's AOKP so it has a lot of nice customisation features as standard, such as:

Navigation bar. This feature can replace the regular dock (if you use a launcher that can hide the dock) and make it seem like you have a Galaxy Nexus :) It's very customisable and can have up to buttons which do whatever you want. It has it's drawbacks however, like an inability to hide...ever; although you can shrink it to a bearable size. See pictures below for how it looks.

Custom Lockscreen. A jkay-esque tweak to let you quick-run apps from the lock screen. If you use a pattern or other form of passcode, you can enable the lockscreen to show before the security check.

Performance Settings, such as cpu adjustments, voltage control, free memory allocation and scrolling cache, which apparently improves scrolling (but I can't see it)

Other tweaks, such as clock, wifi and battery customisation, crt animation, and the ability to set a custom carrier label (see pictures below)

2. As you can see in the pictures, it's got an amazing stock theme. It's a nice black-blue theme (even Gmail is black!) with custom icons and a more presentable notifications bar (sammy-esque, rather than AOSP-esque). The intro is pretty nice as well, no annoying sounds.

3. Stability. Barring what I say in the next section, it's a very stable rom. I haven't had any major issues with it. All the standard features

What isn't good / what doesn't work in this ROM?

Besides the standard ICS issues like scrolling and battery, there's not much wrong with it. I'll build and error log below:

- v2.4: Access to external sd card when plugged in has gone o.O
- v2.4: Lost 3G/HSDPA signal permanently. No idea why...
- v2.3: Had a FC with AVG first time it opened, but it started scanning anyway. Opened fine the second time.
- v2.3: Got a reboot when connecting to usb. usb connection worked after the reboot.
- The weather feature doesn't seem to work properly (but I haven't investigated yet).
- Minor instability issues after using dual boot (eg when i switched Dragon back to primary rom, it had a couple of FCs on reboot, which haven't reoccurred). It could have been causing the above v2.3 FCs.
- I don't know if I've done something weird (probably!), but the standard email app is gone? Someone might want to confirm that. Doesn't bother me since I use Gmail.
- I can't find a native screenshot function. Screenshot ER's 'shake to take' feature (that's what I'm calling it anyway :P) is awesome though!

Summary

It's an amazing rom any way you look at it. It takes everything that's good about AOKP and makes it stable. I've had the least amount of problems with this one, and it's really helped me to dig deeper into AOKP and explore its potential. It's probably not recommended for newbies just starting out on ICS or new to roms in general, just because there's a lot of options and you have to know what boxes you're ticking to get the best result. Once you've explored it enough, it's a great rom to be on!

FAQ

Coming soon!

When I plug my phone into my computer with this rom, how do I find my external SD card? I understand that with ICS usually it is under a "emmc" file, but I don't see it. Also, I went into CWM to delete some old backups, but it doesn't see any.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I'm liking Dragon a lot. However the long-press on the home button to get recent apps does not work properly for me. I gat a huge pixelated android man and a lot of screen corruption.

To be honest, this ROM is EXACTLY the same as Hydrog3n, except its twice the size due to the bundled apps and this has a nicer theme.
I would choose Hydrogen over this but on Hydro, Siyah destroys my wifi, and the only fix I've found is to full wipe. NEAK works on Hydro just fine, but I want that lovely breathing BLN!

My advice is if you can get Siyah wifi to work on Hydrogen, use this and install black or blue infinitum theme.

Is this recent apps function not the same as the mutlitasking screen from AndyX ICS or the old little window pop up from Gingerbread?

My long press on home for the recent apps works perfect for me.

And for me. I had sort of the reverse issue. A lot of things don't work for me on Hydrogen, but I haven't tried the newest-est version :D I can't really be bothered switching over, sort of hanging out for ParanoidAndroid!

Also lotsip81, I've got the same issue. I have a sammy-based rom as my secondary, so I can see my external sd card that way. Otherwise, I can mount it in CWM recovery. Bit of a pain, but that's AOKP. D4/ParanoidAndroid has a feature to recognise the external sd card.

Update: I've somehow lost 3G/HSDPA. No idea how I suddenly lost it, but I've reverted to AndyX (old faithful) until the next Dragon (which hopefully fixes the bugs).

Thanks to Hawker for this:

"on AOSP/AOKP ROMs the external card is mounted correctly to /emmc instead of Sammy's interpretation that goes against the grain of Linux of mounting it to /sdcard/external_sd

You can see /emmc on your PC by going into settings>storage>menu>usb computer connection and ticking MTP. This will allow you to see internal and external SD."

Has anyone experienced black screen of death (need reboot). I had one today and had to restart phone to make it work again. What can be causing this? Did 4 wipes two times and a fresh install of ROM. The I restored apps with Titanium Backup (Just apps, no data that might interfere with new ROM I think). The battery dropped critically after reboot as well.

It was the one coming with the latest version of the ROM :) See that you use Siyah 3.2.b6 (under avatar)? Is the latest version of Siyah stable?

bah, i'll be in the land of nod when that arrives. ach well, will manage a quick flash in the morn before work ;)

any changelog for whats new?

I found Hydrogen to be more stable than Dragon, and I wasn't keen on the theme it came with either. I might give this version a go now that it gives you the option of the stock theme though.

Dragon 2.5 is now available, but there is a bit of a debate going on about the author ripping off Hydra without giving credit to its author.

Its a big boy tho. 380Mb+!

Tbh when I tried Dragon about a week ago it just felt like a more bloated version of Hydrogen. I could be wrong but there wasn't anything better about it for me.

All these AOKP roms are basically the same, working off the same base, just like there are many Sammy ROMs on LP9 for example. They are all the same, but the "author" has put together some personal tweaks and apps etc.

Google apps included are included in Dragon, which is a separate install for Hydrog3n.
Dragon has a few more bloated apps as well (cant remember off the top off my head) which I would never use.
I prefer the bundled theme of Dragon over Hydrog3n.
The latest Hydrog3n has more features (since the AOKP base was updated)
Perhaps this is the reason for the new Dragon v2.5 that is now out.

It all boils down to personal preference I suppose.

Agreed, a lot of these roms are very similar and it comes down to the cherry picked features that the individual prefers. It's been very exciting recently though - there's tons of amazing progress and activity on the rom and kernel development front!

dragon 2.5 is 368mb. wow. other aokp roms i've tried were around 150mb (including gapps). have downloaded and about to install, geez, it must have everything inc kitchen sink etc.

edit: installed, basically the same as the latest HydrogenICS AOKP but with about 100mb of kernels and modems (!) included. aroma installer (aka d4 rom) is nice tho :)
