^There's no need to act like a jerk man. I did add some information it just had nothing to do with cell phones so it's likely I didn't direct my response to you. You need to realize you aren't the only one that looks at these forums.
If you think that was a jerk response, you might want to think twice before venturing out into the big boy world of internet forums. I meant no offense, and you need not be so overly sensitive.
In the last year I have ordered a netbook, 2 desktops, a slingbox and last month a PS3 on sale from Dell, and have never once had a single problem. The netbook and one desktop were from their outlet as well.
Let me jump into this. In the past I have also ordered from Dell. I must say that their prices have been good. All of these purchases have been of products that have been shipped by Dell.
I would be afraid to get something that is being fulfilled by an outside source.
It is bad enough trying to deal with Dell's Customer Service Rep's. I have no idea what this other company would be like and don't want to take a chance.
This is especially true with the Motorola Droid and the possibility of acquiring one of the 'Duds".
I also got mine for $100 + tax of $55. If you buy it through the verizon wireless site and have all the upgrade discounts, its $100, just pay tax on retail, no rebate, nothing.

I'm sorry that you live in a state that you have to pay tax on "retail".
I never understood this concept except for the state making more revenue. It's like if eggs cost me 15 cents, but someone decided that retail was $1,000, well I'd probably not buy eggs anymore.

Well, if you think about it, it kind of makes sense. The reason you don't pay retail is because you sign up for a contract. So the company still makes back the money over the course of 2 years, the only one getting screwed is the state. no sales tax on a service

I thought the NE2 discount on this phone was still $149? How are you guys managing $99 + tax? Slightly off-topic: Anyone think Verizon will do my NE2 3 months early?

Actually yeah - my NE2 was supposed to occur until January -
I called, and said I wanted a droid. The lady said she will speak with her supervisor, and she came back and said there was nothing they could do.
So I called back like 10 mins later, got a different rep, and I said a previous rep said it is possible to bump up my upgrade date, but that her supervisor said no. I then promptly told her, with the Iphone prices as cheap as they were, they could consider my contract cancelled once it was up, and I would be moving to ATT. She came back, and bumped my upgrade date to Nov 3. Then when the droid came out, I ordered it the very next day on Verizonwireless.com for $99 - and I also got a 20% discount off my entire bill every month.
They can and do move your upgrade date if you get the right rep, or make it clear you will switch.
edit - To the guy who called me a liar, I could post screen shots of the bill of sale and shipping notice if you don't believe me. But yeah, $52 a month for this phone and internet service / features is damn amazing.

I have a friend who works at verizon wireless, he said unless I could get someone high up to override, there was no way of doing it... I had to wait a few days when the droid came out to get my NE2
I'm not sure how it came to $99 + tax, not sure what the discount is or isn't, I just know that's what it came to with the NE2, contract extension, etc.

Quote: Discount will be invalid if the rate plan is changed to a lower monthly service rate, or if this equipment is transferred to another line of service. Additional restrictions apply.
I want to sign up for the Nationwide plus Canada plan that verizon offers, however it doesn't appear as an option on the Dell website.
If I sign up with Dell to get the lower price, can I go to Verizon right after and up my plan? Nationwide plus Canada is $79.99 for 900 min including LD and roaming in US and Canada. If I try and "up" my plan, is that okay?
If I call Dell, will they be able to offer this plan, even though it isn't listed on their website?
As someone who works in Canada and the US, this plan works best for me, but I want to get the best price for the DROID!
