Root Droid 3 One Click Root for X2 2.3.4 OTA

I just rooted this using the Droid 3 zip file provided here:

DROID 3 easy root script v7.zip

Use at your own risk.. of course. If you brick, burn, blow up or otherwise harm your phone, refrigerator, wife or school using this method, don't PM or make nasty posts to me: it's your fault. ;)

I downloaded the zip file to my downloads folder on my laptop.

Extracted it in the same folder.

Connected my phone via USB cable.

Left it on "charge only" with the screen live (awake).

Clicked the "Click to Root the Droid 3" bat file.

Watched for about one minute until "your phone should be rooted now" popped into the terminal screen on my laptop.
 
You have to perform a SBF back to stock 2.3.4. That being said the only SBF out there right now is the "leaked" 2.3.4 so you would have to use that file. The official 2.3.4 file has not been released yet, but I'm confident that it's just a matter of time before it is out.

So, if you did an official update and want to root then you are doing that at your own risk in that if you want to or have to un-root you will be using the "unofficial" 2.3.4
I suppose you could try SBF to the official 2.3.3 but I would not recommend that. (unless someone has done that already and can prove that the process works just fine.)

I have a hunch that the leaked 2.3.4 SBF is the same as what everyone else is getting but I can prove that once the official version is released.
 
I finally have my phone exactly how I want it. I even made a backup using TB, which as you know can only be done with root access. If I flash back to 2.3.3 and update ota to 2.3.4 and root, will I be able to restore my setup saved through TB?

Be careful, though. I've often had issues restoring system settings across different OS versions.
 
So I was on 2.3.3 rooted and got notice of the OTA. Didn't realize it was for the whole OS and went ahead and accepted it. After unfreezing the bloatware the OTA worked and my phone has been fine. However now, my phone is not rooted.

Has anyone else tried this one-click root for Droid 2 or just the OP? Is it safe to do?

i can speak for the one-click method that I posted on HERE I've used on 2.3.4, others both here and on XDA have said it works just fine. Frisco says this method works too so they both work.
 
I also just got the 2.3.4 update and am now unrooted. Initially I used the Gingerbreak. I tried Gingerbreak again with no luck and also tried the script the OP listed. No luck. What are my options now? Any ideas? thanks

What messages do you see in the terminal window when the script fails?
 
When I run the script, here's what I get:

Running exploit [part 1 of 3]
rebooting the phone... please wait
*server not running*

rebooting the phone... please wait

remount succeeded

All done! Your phone should be rooted!

The phone reboots after exploit 1 and 2.
 
I switched to "Pc Mode" and ran it again. I didn't get the "server not running" on the first exploit, but it still didn't work.
 
Should I SBF to the 2.3.4, then try the root option? I'm stuck in the middle of having no root, so can't use TiBu before I SBF. Argghhh
Any ideas? thx
 
If you are already on 2.3.4 then no, do not SBF, you shouldn't have to. Have you tried other rooting methods described elsewhere on this forum?
 
Well I've tried two, and just before answering I thought I'd try out Pete's method- and that has worked. Now I just need to fix the things that the 2.3.4 update jacked up.
 
Mostly notifications. The LED used to fire up when charging and hitting 90%, then kicking out a notification at 100%. My Handcent is also jacked - sends duplicate text messages, but looks like only from Verizon senders, and intermittently. I haven't played with much since losing root, but I'll now get on with it. I use tethering extensively so that was my main concern about getting back su privileges. I'm looking into flashing a custom ROM sometime soon as well (had Liberty on the DX1 and loved it).
 
I just used peete's method on my DX2 using a Mac and I can confirm it totally works on 2.3.4 after I updated to it OTA from a rooted version of 2.3.

I had rooted 2.3.3. When the 2.3.4 update was released and the notification popped up on my phone it was early and I clicked update without thinking. The update went through ok, but I lost root (still had superuser app and everything). Using both methods discussed here will run and finish with no problems but will have no effect on my phone whatsoever, and it remains unrooted. Should I sbf back to stock 2.3.4 and try rooting from there, or are there other options? Thanks for the help.
 
As a favor to the community here, if you do SBF back to stock 2.3.4, please post your method. I'm seeing mixed results from methods posted around.
 
I was thinking about that. I havn't really looked specifically but I did see some people were having problems sbf'ing straight to 2.3.4, so would it work just as well to sbf to 2.3.3 then upgrade to 2.3.4?

I am not clear from your previous post. What are you on right now, 2.3.3 or 2.3.4? If you have 2.3.4 now then it doesn't make much sense to do this. I would back up whatever you want backed up, then boot into recovery and do a cache reset and factory reset. Then, try the one click root method.

It looks like his update OTA from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 went ok, but extinguished root access.

I'm interested in finding a reliable method of unrooting my 2.3.4 (OTA) and returning to stock. I'm used to being able to do that at will (Fascinate, Eris).

I am on 2.3.4, had root but now I don't, though the superuser app is still there. Will I have to reset in order to root my phone again, or is there anything else that will work?
