Help DROID Incredible random restart/reboot problem

you guys all have bluetooth enabled when it happened?

mine did a random reboot tonight, had bluetooth on, usually don't. also was running ebuddy, nothing else interesting.

I had Bluetooth, WiFi, and GPS all off when mine rebooted randomly. Only thing in common I've seen with others was the going from a place of no service to service. Beyond that, it's a mystery.

Mine rebooted 2 times yesterday. Once in the afternoon, again at 1 am.

After the first reboot yesterday, after it came back up, it would not recognize the SD card. After uninserting and reinserting the SD card, all seemed to be fine.

I really love this phone, but if this keeps up, I think I'll be returning it. My Eris was pretty solid, but I'm beginning to have my doubts that my Incredible will be as trouble free.

I received my droid incredible last Wednesday through phone order and I have been experiencing the reboot problems. I live in upstate NY in the middle of Syracuse. I usually have at least 2 bars of signal strength. My DI reboots about every half hour or so. I called VW and they had me do a factory data reset. After the reset all of my installed apps were deleted so i reinstalled them. I DID NOT reinstall ATK. The first day, I thought my problem was fixed, but the next day, the rebooting started again as bad as before.

What I'm wondering is, should I bother exchanging for another DI, or wait for an update. I've heard of people within the same family all with the DI, and only some of them havin the reboot issue, so I'm semi-convinced that the problem could be hardware related as well as signal strength related. On the other hand, some people are on their 3rd replacement and are still experiencing the same problems. Perhaps some DIs, based on manufacturing variabilites are getting slightly better strength than others?

If there is no hope for this to be fixed, then it DEFINITELY is a deal breaker for me and should be for everyone and I need to return this phone asap but I only got my upgrade because this phone came out and there isn't another phone I would settle for except the nexus one which isn't on VW. I am going to the VW store today to weigh my options.

Rebooting every half hour or so is serious and rediculous. Most people are having random occasional reboots (e.g., once or twice a day to once every few days). Mine reboots once a week. You phone is rebooting up to 48 times a day - return it. You can demonstrate that in the store. I can't because Mine reboots once or twice a week.

If you are having this problem, please contact Verizon to complain. The more people who do that the faster it will be fixed (assuming it's not a hardware problem).

The "THC Droid Incredible" is having random reboot problems. There are many many customers with this problem. The phone will reboot itself for no reason - sometimes several times a day. Please make sure upper management is aware of this problem so it can be fixed! This is effecting a large percentage of your customers. Here are links to some of the many forums where people are reporting this problem, including Verizon's Forum and HTC:

I've had a few as well and I'm in Southwest Fl (Naples). The latest one on happened while sitting on my desk idle.

What gives? Should we update towers *228 option 2??????????

Just out of curiosity...how many people have reboot problems have Swype installed???
My reboots started before i installed the swype beta. After a data reset, i made sure i only installed basic apps from the marketplace and did not use any task killers but the reboots persisted. It's kind of annoying. I can be taking a 2hr final and feel my phone vibrate 3 times as it reboots in my pocket. The most annoying reboots tho are the ones that happen when i unlock my phone as if i triggered it. The second i want to use my phone, i have to wait a minute for it to reboot.

I'm wondering if this problem is more widespread than is being reported....

The only way that I know my phone has rebooted, is that I have "location on" in settings. Whenever the phone reboots, I get the Google warning message that my location can be tracked....When I see this warning page, I know that the phone has rebooted. If location was set to "off", I would have no clue that the phone rebooted.

If I didn't feel my phone vibrate, I'd never have even known it rebooted. Since it happened, I check the "time since unplugged" every now and then since that resets once the phone powers off. Thus far, looks like only the one reboot. I will monitor my phone for a few weeks.

I sent Verizon a friendly email yesterday letting them know about the issue and directed them to this thread so they can see I am not alone. They wrote back that it was forwarded to the Technical Support department and they will see what they can do. Indeed, the more people who email, the better our chances of them taking this seriously.

I emailed VZW about this. It is happening to many others. They told me to do the following the next time it happens:

"We encourage you to contact us from a landline telephone whenever a problem is encountered. We then pass this information on to our System Performance Team so that we may investigate and resolve the issue within our abilities.

To file a Trouble Ticket to be submitted for your area please call us from a landline phone at 800-922-0204 and have the following information available:

I received an email reply from Verizon stating:

"Thank you for providing additional information that I can forward to our management team regarding the issue with the Droid device. I am sure we will address the concern for our many Incredible users. Normally when there are know issues with a new handset an over the air update will be accessible on the handsets once the software update is released to fix the issue"

Mine seems to be related to losing cell service. I have noticed today that it seems to be doing this in dead zones. There are a few places on the way to work that it seems to be rebooting. Also it rebooted in an elevator today. I am going to keep an eye on this.

Mine does the same thing but I'm not worried about it. I have dead zones in my house and around because I live in the mountains. It seems sometimes it will just go blank...,then the verizon symbol will come up and the HTC quietly brillant logo, then will go back to home screen, (usually with a stock wallpaper instead of the one I had).
