What is next for Droid x as far as update versions of froyo without having to root anything?

You probably won't see a new 2.2 (Froyo) update...

Looks like the "final" / official (take that with a grain of salt) release of Gingerbread (2.3) may finally start rolling-out soon, according to various web sites this morning.

The Droid X folks that installed one of the various leaked Gingerbread ROMs have been doing some very nice testing for VZV and Motorola.

Cheers!

Links please :)?

lol...didn't include them since there were quite a few (and didn't necessary want to be a rumor monger (hence the "grain of salt" inclusion ;)) [edit: also, as an Eris owner, I know what its like to be "teased" for 6 months regarding the release of a long-promised OTA ;)]:

Does phone need root for GB update. Anything coming out for non rooted 2.2 phones

Oh, certainly...non-rooted 2.2 / Froyo phones will receive the next, official OTA updates.

Even some root users (those that haven't removed or significantly altered their system apps) will also receive any official OTA updates.

The "buzz" that is out there is that the leaked Gingerbread will soon be pushed-out / available to the masses.

I wouldn't hold your breath on all of this though...its still all very unofficial, until it becomes official (i.e., direct word from VZW). There is still a possibility that VZW will not approve the latest build and may decide to hold-off on its OTA publication / release.

Cheers!
