go into settings > applications > manage applications > (your email app) > clear cache and data. This might fix your problem. Think of it as a factory reset for the app. You will have to sign in again.
Do not factory reset your phone just to get a tiny bit more memory, unless you're desperate.

I do clear my cache and data all the time - thank God for Apps2SD and Astro! - I'm running between 35-40 MB free -
I just can't figure out why my email repopulates with 'non-Inbox' emails.
