Help Enabling WiFi Adhoc on Milestone ?

webvan

Newbie
Just picked up an unlocked Milestone and I popped in my prepaid T-Mobile card and I have my home WiFi network bur for data on the go I need to use the 3G connection of my iPad via WiFi...problem is that the WiFi network it creates is an AdHoc one and as I found Android can't connect to AdHoc networks by default...standard on WinMp and iOS so what possessed them to do that ?!

Afte some digging around I found a guide to enable AdHoc on rooted Androphones How to connect an android phone to your ad-hoc wi-fi network | Wissam Idrissi so I spent a few hours rooting and installing the proper apps...

No go though, my AdHoc network does appear in the list with MySSD : "Not in range, remembered" but it never connects...has anyone managed to connect to an AdHoc network on a Milestone with 2.1 ?

Thanks, I've tried every guide under the sun and it's a no go, seems no one has managed to enable AdHoc on a Milestone so far.

Maybe because there is an extra wpa_supplicant.conf file in /system/etc/wifi/ other Android phones don't seem to have that.

So...I did get it to work in the end but only with an AdHoc network created on a PC, it just won't connect to AdHoc networks created on my iPad or iPhone...maybe that's why Google have not activated AdHoc networks yet, just a theory.

So I went ahead and got a MiFi but now I have one more device to keep charged and its got a poor battery life (2/3 hours so not good if you're out for the day), it's just not manageable, not sure what to do at this point, because I do like the Milestone! Any alternatives with a keyboard?
