Help Excluding Google Contact Groups

I've looked everywhere and tried everything I can think of. This is driving me mad.

In Google contacts, I have
My Contacts
- Include (100)
- Exclude (50)

I only want to see the Include ones on my phone. I can filter the People app, so it only shows Include, but all the other apps (Dialer, Email, Handcent etc), still show all the contacts. I don't want the Exclude ones anywhere.
