Help Experiencing trouble with notifications and display.

I have had my Android for about 2 weeks, and have not had any trouble until now. I noticed last night that the bar at the very top, where the battery and notifications are displayed is no longer there. Any thoughts on how to make it visible again? And when I try to see any notifications the option does not even let me do that.

Also, my calendar app decided to die and no longer works. Help!

Are you using a launcher/home replacement app? Are you stock or rooted? Did you change any settings or recently add a new app?
Need more info.
