few questions about rooting and updating OS

hey everyone. im new to posting but iv been reading a lot.
have few questions.
which version of the OS is the safe one, in case you have to remove it and put it back to stock form?
i heard that last 2.1 would lock your phone and you wont be able to revert it back to 1.5 and wont accept the update if/when sprint will release 2.1 ..
any advice, tips? i just want my phone to run faster.....

Also, what you heard about 2.1 is only true if you flash the leaked 2.1 RUU. If you follow the guide you will be fine. Root first, then flash. I recommend Fresh 2.0d or Fresh 1.1.

i used your step by step guide and i get all way to the end and when you type
reboot recovery the phone just shuts down and wont go to recovery screen for nothing...
any advice before ill f-up anything ?

i was installing fresh to root my phone :)
 
when ill try home screen and power button all i get is black background with white HTC logo that stays there forever....
anyone knows the answer
please let me know

I'm not 100% sure what you mean by your were installing Fresh to root your phone?
I assume you meant you followed the guide and were trying to root first and then install Fresh correct?

You had a 100% stock Sprint CDMA Hero Right?

If you followed the tutorial, when you flashed the recovery image, did it flash successfully? If it did, you should be able to boot into recovery. Otherwise, I have seen other people with similar problems try and flash a different recovery image (There are links to other Recovery Images in the tutorial). You could try that
 
well i was having problems after the rooting the phone would not for any reason boot to recovery mode. so i finally downloaded sprint 1.56 ruu reflashed the phone and than it went well.
and i made mistake
i rooted the phone than loaded DamagControl 2.07.2

so far everything is working perfect.....fast as hell.....

it takes time to read, but the best way is to learn it yourself....

thanks to this site im Rooted and flashed LOL

and yes it was 100% stock CDMA Hero
