Flashing, firmware, baseband, help?

Glad that it worked out for you sid. :)

I had to give up on the phone due to carrier issues here in the US. Sad really but there were just a few things that I did not like. Like bluetooth for example.

I have no replacement as of yet, still using my Droid X. :D

We've never got the droid lineup here, and i don't think anywhere else in europe, i'm hoping google's partnership with motorola is gona turn out more motorola products on a worldwide level though, it's been ages since i had anything motorola, but when i did, it was quite alright :P

What kind of carrier issues ? if you ask me i'd rather given up on the carrier instead of the phone =P

That is a shame. I may go with the Droid Bionic but there is also the Droid HD that has been recently shown in the wild as well as the Nexus Prime. So its gonna get good in the coming months. Samsung is supposed to make a big announcement in NYC on 8/29. Prolly will talk about the US version of the SGSII.

Carrier issue well there really is no choice in the states with this phone other than ATT and T-Mobile which both stink. Say what you will about VZW but their network is great. Also bluetooth is very important to me and the call quality using BT with this phone compared to my DX was horrible. I just sent it back today so its off to a warehouse somewhere in the US.

Hi all.... new to these forums, and some help greatly appreciated!

Recently ditched my BB 9550 for the SG2 and am loving my new rig!

With some help from Blue1K on another thread I figured out how to root/unlock and get rid of the triangle. I've been reading endlessly about stock/custom ROMs and am swimming in questions! I'd like to start out with t few simple ones:

  • Is there a guide that explains what all the letters and numbers mean in the various firmwares? ie region codes, versions etc... I thought I saw one somewhere but now can't find it.
  • Phone: I9100MUGKG2
    CSC: I9100MBMCKG2
Does the "M" mean I'm branded to Bell? I don't have Bell splash screens but I definitely have their crapware - much of which I froze using Titanium Pro and Slug's spreadsheet guide posted on these forums.
  • How do I tell if "Stock" firmware options are branded or unbranded, and which unbranded versions would be appropriate to my region (I want modem to work and prefer no crapware included!).

I guess I'll stop there until I get some answers, which may end up answering some of my other questions!

If anyone experienced in this area can chime in I'd be most grateful for your help!

Thanks! :)

Well, in the absence of answers, I kept searching elsewhere and found some! In case anyone else wants to know:

Region codes etc. may be found here:
Samsung Letter Code - www.SamFirmware.com

Yes, the M meant I was branded to Bell. However I've since flashed the new XXKI3 Android 2.3.5 found here:
[ROM+Guide]Official i9100 Firmwares KG1/2/3/5/6/7, KH1/2/3/4, KI1/2/3/4 Download - xda-developers:D So I'm free of "M"

"How do I tell if "Stock" firmware options are branded or unbranded, and which unbranded versions would be appropriate to my region (I want modem to work and prefer no crapware included!)." Osmosis, plus lots and lots of reading! :D

Off to root my new firmware... :D
