That was the flaw in my plan... I didn't understand what I was reading well enough... I didn't install one. Just rom manager. I guess I was lucky I didn't brick the phone!

Never mind guys I'm just going to leave this phone as it is for now (rooted no real upgrades.) I'll just use bloat freezer to stop the bloatware from eating up my battery. When I'm bored with it and starting to feel like its time to move up to a 4g phone then I'll play with it some more.

if you're having a hard time getting the custom recovery to work so you can do a nand back up just use the list of safe apps to remove from the link

after a while when i got more comfortable with my phone i did a custom recovery and a custom rom. as long as you only delete the apps on the safe to delete list you will be okay. i'm happy to help with any questions you may have.

Well I removed some of the bloat with no problems, Then I found an app(blade buddy pro) that was supposed to shut off the boot animation... all it did was increase the font size so I changed the settings to reset the start up animation to work again and rebooted but the font size did not change back. If I install a new program designed to change the font will that help or hurt? any ideas how I can fix this would be very appreciated... thank you
