Gmail Program Widget

I put the program widget on the homescreen that say Gmail, but home come it wont display a 1,2,3,etc on it when there are new messages. The program widget that is called Mail does it. Is there a setting that needs to be turned on.

Stock Gmail goes not do this. You need to add a widget from the marketplace.

I think the default Gmail widget is intended to but is bugged. 80% of the time, it doesn't display a new mail counter. But randomly I'll unlock the phone and have a #. Go figure.
