Google voice assistant response

Google assistant is only supposed to respond to my voice, correct? Do background noises have an affect? It often does a poor job of interpreting what I say. For instance, something if I say 'take a reminder", it opens my camera. Or, at orher times, not matter how many repetitions I attempt to create a particular reminder, and how slowly and clearly I try to say it, it wrongly repeats it back to me, with the same wrong phrase.

Another is when it doesn't refer to my contacts for requested phone calls.

I've retrained the voice numerous times

I'd really like to find a replacement for it.

I forgot to mention, when I say "Hey Google", if I have both my phone and galaxy tab s5e open at he same time, my tablet is the only one to respond.

I would like that to be reversed, making the phone the default.
