    ive been looking for the same thing. there is that nasty thing called AndNav that i cant seem to make much use of... it's a beta and either it doesnt do what i want it to, or i simply dont have the patience to plow through it's awful, unhelpful interface.
    but i need to download maps to my phone, and dont necessarily need a turn by turn gps navigation system like andnav. i'm just wondering how to get maps on my phone when im outside of tower coverage.

    We've been working on one ltrax - Google Code and it's in heavy development. It'll support creation of tracks by way of widgets and doing so without a 'net connection. It will eventually be able to save GPX files to the SD card.
