Help "HD" Quality Video? CHOP SUEY!

I would like to know anyone's or everyone's thoughts on the choppiness of the MT video capture. I don't see the point in having an "HD" quality video camera if it can't even handle simple movement. Does anyone know if future software updates or anything can help this issue? The only time the video is clear is if I'm holding the camera still, and that may as well just be a photograph. This is a disappointment. Can anyone get my hopes up for an improved video capturing experience on the MT?

Mine is choppy as well. But I did not buy this phone for filming, so it doesn't bother me much.

I also remember some other poster saying that the SD card that came with the phone is a class 2 card, which is not very well suited for video recording. So getting a class 10 SD card would probably improve the quality if taking video is important to you.

Remember, It's a phone that is capable of recording video.... It's not a video camera capable of making calls.

I think the class of card does matter. I am using an 8GB class 6 card. I selected High as the Vid Recording mode. It seemed to be OK, although I don't know what ultimately to expect. Maybe I'll get a class 10 card.

It would be helpful if someone with a class 10card put up something on youtube.

I'm not sure how anyone would know whether a future software update would fix this, after all the majority of people on here are people like yourself who just bought the phone. Your best bet here would be to contact Motorola and ask them directly.

Also, as someone pointed out, it's a phone with video capabilities. In order to advertise HD quality video, all it needs to do is capture video at HD resolution of (in this case of 720p) 1280x720.
Don't confuse HD quality with something like blu-ray quality. There's a reason why filmmakers don't use camera phones to shoot movies. There's a big difference between a camera phone video shooting at 720p and a HD video camera shooting at 720p.

you know, I agree with danthemanohyea. actually, it would behoove Motorola to place some comparison video on their website with different class cards, so people like yourself knew what to purchase to support the best performance.

their support forums are beginning to get populated for the device.

I have a feeling the reason that the video is choppy is because the camera (at this time) isn't capable of the full 720p resolution @ 30 frames per second. I don't know if they can repair this issue with an update or what, but based on the file sizes and target bitrates, a strong class 2 or regular class 4 card "should" handle it just fine (it does with my Kodak Zi8 and 1080p video @ 30 fps). I have a class 10 32GB card due to arrive next week, I'll let you know if there is any improvement.

Maybe run a couple quick tests and verify framerates using MediaInfo, then add your results to the conversation.
