HELP NEEDED. says phone memory full, but isn't

hey guys, new to the forum. tried to search and find some help on this one, but to no avail, so please no flaming

A few days ago, i attempted to move my contacts over to the sd card, hoping to free up internal memoery. after that, the phone wouldn;'t let me look at text threads in my messages, saying the phone was too full, even though the internal memory said something like 8 mb free. now, i have no idea what to do. help/assistance would be loveley, or possibly a link to how to manage phone memory, or something along those lines. thanks everyone!

What type of phone do you have? Is it rooted?

MyTouch Slide, not rooted (i have insurance on the handset)

hmmmmm You may want to take it in, if its insured, and ask them what is going on with it.

I have the same problem sometimes, happened today in fact. I've got about 12mb free on the phone but got a notice in the status bar saying that memory was almost full.
