Root Help sync issue system restore

Hey yall my mom is real upset over the last OAU it basically won't let her access her work emails with sync, I want to help her out as she used to have version 2.3.340 can anyone help me help her on restoring her phone to this software format? Her phone isn't rooted but I could root it if need be...thanks
