Hide apps from the drawer on a programmer's level

Is there a way to hide an application from the drawer and let it keep running silently in the background? You can white list it so it's not visible to task manager so we're talking about hiding only the cosmetic visibility of the icon that opens the application without the use of external apps from the market. Device is Rooted and Busy.
