How do I Sync Android Phone Contacts with Google?

Hi anyone, just got a Droid Bionic 2 days ago. VZ transferred all my 500 contacts from my Samsung Omnia 2 to the new phone. Trouble is, these new contacts don't show on my online Google contacts! I tried doing a sync, no go. I understand if you create a new contact it will sync, but not contacts imported like I did.
Would appreciate any suggestions. I searched and searched for an answer, could not find it.
Thx.
p.s. I just added a contact to my phone contacts, did a sync, and it showed up on my Google account online! Strange!

VZ transferred your contacts on to your phone, not your Google account. You need to transfer them to Google, not your phone. Once in Google, they will sync to your phone. I would export them out of your phone, delete them on your phone and import them into Google and then do a sync, which will then show up on your phone. You may have noticed when you added that one contact, it showed up in Google. You should notice that your phone has a drop down for which contacts folder to send to and it should always be Google. That way they are always safe and backed up. Hope this helps.

Thanks!
I tried to export from Outlook to create a csv file (all these years my contacts were in Outlook) but Google would not import. I might have to export from the phone to the SD card, then import into Google contacts. Ah, well! I'll give it a try in the next couple of days. I have a MicroSD to SD adapter card to stick into the computer.
Would you know how to delete all the contacts off the phone? (after exporting) Thx

Install Go Contact Sync Mod. It will sync your contacts from outlook to google. Then turn on your phone's google contact sync then everything will be synced fine in 2way.

to erase phone contacts from the phone, set the phone to show only the phone contacts, then select all and delete. You do this by going to the settings menu in your contacts app.

Google can definitely import from CSV. You might want to look around in their help. There's a document that specifically addresses importing from CSV files. I don't have a link handy though.

Oh, I was not aware of this program, thanks much for the info! Will give it a try!
