How get better battery life

Overcharging shouldn't be a problem unless you deliberately try to do it (i.e. unplug when fully charged then try to charge it again - which absurdly you would see some people recommending as a "trick" to improve battery performance a few years ago!). Just leaving it plugged after it has reached full won't do any harm, the charge controller in the phone is smarter than that.

Yes. "Drain fully" really only applies to NiCd batteries, which haven't been used in phones for decades, and is actually bad for Li-Ion or Li-polymer (which are just another type of Li-Ion) batteries. Don't go topping them up when they've only discharged a few percent, but equally try not to run them flat if you have a choice.

Of course all of the suggestions so far refer to battery longevity (i.e. how long the battery lasts before it needs replacing) rather than improving how long the phone will last on a single charge - though as that will reduce as the battery ages, these things are related. For improving how long the battery lasts during the day it's just the usual, boring suggestions: don't run the screen brighter than you needs to, don't have apps polling the internet for updates more often than necessary, if an app causes excessive drain find an alternative app, and try not to overheat the phone (as well as heat being bad for batteries anyway, the reason Rachael says not to use it when charging, they also discharge faster when hot). And do not install any "battery booster" apps, because that's just another name for a task killer and those things actually fight with the Android OS and end up doing the opposite of what they claim.
