Help How Much Internal Memory Do You Keep Free?

Yeah, I'm lucky - I've not even done the custom mtd yet (which is a strong candidate). Or I could put Redux on the Oxygen table (which I could do on the train tomorrow, so probably too simple...).

Id like to flash my own rom. But that would involve making one first.

Ive been looking for a good base to make it on, but not really found anything suitable. Not sure how much I actually want to do it either.

Or just try CM7 table. It has more space for trying ASOP ROMs (130MB) and loses only 35MB to Oxygen table.

Well if I put Redux on it fits inside the Oxygen table. However GV won't fit the CM table unless I hack out a few more apps, but the bigger problem is the small cache partition - the script CM use to work round that doesn't seem to work with GV (or not for me). That's something I should try to follow up on.

I ran devnull through dsixda kitchen, de-odexed, zip align, cut down yada yada.

Was the same size as my cut down redux. Only thing it gained on it really was 2.3.4 and maybe a bit of speed. Didnt have power control and USB mount didnt work.

CM uses the same script as Redux - 06mountdl.
If you tried and it didn't work on GV, then that is interesting. I couldn't get also the script generated by Link2SD to work on GV. Add to that the fact, that I couldn't S-OFF my phone when GV was on it (worked with Redux).

Are you running GV at the moment? If so, could you run a terminal emulator and try the command "df -k /cache"?

What I find is that with GV df doesn't recognise the -k argument, or indeed any argument - it just responds that there is no such file or directory as "-k". The problem is that the 06mountdl scripts uses the output of this command to determine the size of the cache partition (the -k being there to override any defaults and specify the block size things should be reported in), so if the command fails the script will not recognise a small cache.

I'm going to follow this up on the GV thread...

No, I'm not on GV. I'm testing CM7 for now.
When I was on GV, I did run the df command (without -k), and it displayed the partition sizes.

Yeah, it displays them but in a "human readable" form, which is harder for the script.

Interestingly I've discovered that there's a /system/bin/df and a /system/xbin/df, and the first one doesn't recognise -k but the second does....

Well, as long as we can move most of the application components (apk, data, lib, dalvik, cache) to SD card (a la app2sd+), we will always have enough space for apps.

True, but I could have even more without changing ROM if I could get that working

Seems the difference between the 2 commands is toolbox vs busybox. Have posted a longish description/question at XDA, so will see whether this is something Richard feels worth addressing.

Can always hack my own phone (or the script), but it would be more elegant if GV had the same functionality here as CM7 or Redux.
