That video was insanely helpful and informative.
So this is what I got...
Did this ever get resolved? I am on cricket, and I am having the same problem, I can not get it to make any boot sound, and I was able to move the sound file to the correct folder, and it is named properly and is case sensitive.....It is, I am just thinking that it was not a capability of the cricket model, because everything is where it should be...
Thank you for trying to help me out though, its apreciated

booif your on cm6 or cm7 it will not work...only works for icarus and stock 2.1
boooh well
Im using Icarus on my Ascend and I love it. I have changed the boot screen NO problem but i can't find the sound file. I know that currently have NO boot sound with Icarus. So how do I add one. Thank you. I have yet to find a post that helps me with this.
i see a lot about downloading boot animations but what about creating my own??
tried to modify the cm7 boot animation but I can't seem to get it to display. Does anyone know how to make it "compatible"?? i just added my own animation to the cm7 .png files and made a new bootanimation.zip. used root explorer but it just will not play. file names, dimensions, and format all the same (very close in file sizes). what am i doing wrong?
any help would be greatly appreciated
and when you say it won't work on cm7...are you talking about the sound or the animation?
trying to look around for answers...I see a bootloader vid that nuttmeg posted...I see something about unpacking boot.img but not sure if either one of those is what i need...
I'm still having trouble. I did exactly what was said above and I still don't hear my new startup/bootup sound nor do I see the new images.
I keep getting the message "Can't write to file: /system/media/audio/ui/bootstrapsound.ogg"
Any suggestions?
It sounds like you're using ROOT EXPLORER.
If you haven't done so already, toggle the button at the top of the page that says "MOUNT R/W" until it says "MOUNTED AS R/W" just to the left of the button.
Then, you can start moving your files to the desired location.
Keep us posted w/your results.
