Root How to change the startup sound and image

cricket shouldnt have anything to do with it... you have to make sure read/write is on... the little pencil on the bottom, before pasting the file. if there isnt one there, there will be no sound on start up

Found it.
Second page in all things root about half way down I was right on the name.
Vid shows rooting process as well as boot change. check the vid description for the apk files.

That video was insanely helpful and informative.

That's why it helps to look around before posting a question, someone may have already solved it.
I managed to root, delete bloatware, figure out my overclock limits, change boot ani and sound and learn androot all before I even made my first post.
all I did was spend a little time reading before I did ANYTHING and I had no problems... Till I deleted gtalkservice.apk and had to figure it out.
As it turns out someone else had the same problem early on. I found it only after my pleas for help went unanswered.
Now theres like ten threads on changing this sound and they all say the same thing.
Seriously folks, there is a "search" option for a reason,use it.

Sorry about the rant but it's been bugging me.

It is, I am just thinking that it was not a capability of the cricket model, because everything is where it should be...

Thank you for trying to help me out though, its apreciated
Did this ever get resolved? I am on cricket, and I am having the same problem, I can not get it to make any boot sound, and I was able to move the sound file to the correct folder, and it is named properly and is case sensitive.....:confused:

if your on cm6 or cm7 it will not work...only works for icarus and stock 2.1

Im using Icarus on my Ascend and I love it. I have changed the boot screen NO problem but i can't find the sound file. I know that currently have NO boot sound with Icarus. So how do I add one. Thank you. I have yet to find a post that helps me with this.

boot sound DROID, http://www.mediafire.com/?3342modz58nz0wb

1. Find and download the sound that you want to use (bootStrapSound.ogg).
2. Now with root explorer, place the bootStrapSound.ogg in "/system/media/audio/ui".
3. Now you need to edit the build.prop file located in "/system".
4. In root explorer, mark the system directory "R/W" and open build.prop in text editor.
5. At the very bottom of build.prop, add the following lines:

ro.config.hw_isninecell=true
ro.config.hw_bootSoundValue=3.0
ro.config.hw_hasbootsound=true

6. Save the file and reboot your phone, you should now hear your custom boot sound.

i see a lot about downloading boot animations but what about creating my own??
tried to modify the cm7 boot animation but I can't seem to get it to display. Does anyone know how to make it "compatible"?? i just added my own animation to the cm7 .png files and made a new bootanimation.zip. used root explorer but it just will not play. file names, dimensions, and format all the same (very close in file sizes). what am i doing wrong?

any help would be greatly appreciated

and when you say it won't work on cm7...are you talking about the sound or the animation?

trying to look around for answers...I see a bootloader vid that nuttmeg posted...I see something about unpacking boot.img but not sure if either one of those is what i need...

look for my thread for bootsound for cm7, also everything is put together and also there is a txt file in there that shows you where to put things.

Thanks for the info Fastbreak, after steering me in the right direction I had to figure something out myself:
After I upgraded to 2.2 (Metro PCS) the "bootanimation.zip" needs to go into the following location, I used root explorer.
cust/metropcs/us/media
The sound file goes to the same place.
Now I have a cool startup sequence, thanks 2 U.

I'm still having trouble. I did exactly what was said above and I still don't hear my new startup/bootup sound nor do I see the new images.

I keep getting the message "Can't write to file: /system/media/audio/ui/bootstrapsound.ogg"

Any suggestions?

It sounds like you're using ROOT EXPLORER.

If you haven't done so already,toggle the button at the top of the page that says "MOUNT R/W" until it says "MOUNTED AS R/W" just to the left of the button.

Then,you can start moving your files to the desired location.

Keep us posted w/your results.

I appreciate the help but I've done that also. No methods have worked. I use ROOT EXPLORER and X-PLORE as well. Still open to any suggestions. I am new at this so feel free to go into great detail if you must. Thank you.
